Any interest in support for different output resolutions?
« on: July 08, 2008, 12:15:05 PM »
I like to play my games, including SMW, on a projector which is connected to my HTPC. The projector can be somewhat picky about video modes, and it badly distorts 640x480, which meant that until now I had to play SMW in a window. I _love_ SMW, though, so I decided to do something about it. I've written a patch against the current SMW SVN that makes it scale its output to a higher resolution - in my case, 1024x768, the native resolution of my projector. At the moment, the resolution is specified with #defines, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too tough to add a field for it in the menus.

My question is, is there any interest in this from other people, or is this a niche thing that few would benefit from? I'd be willing to polish the patch and add controls for it in the UI if it's something that people want and the patch would be accepted for inclusion in the project.

Thanks to everyone who helped make SMW; it's a fantastic game!

smw does look kinda stretched as wide screen.
would the patch be able to do anything about that?

That's an aspect ratio issue; it's certainly something that could easily be addressed. There'd just need to be black bars along either the tops or the sides of the screen. It would be easy to allow users to choose whether they wanted to maintain the proper aspect ratio or not, so people who preferred either method would be satisfied.

seems like a pretty good idea, is it something that embeds the game in it, or are you patching the game itself?

That sounds like a goos idea. Sometimes I think Super Mario War looks a bit too small in windowed, I would love to have it bigger. I always play Super Mario War in full screen because of this.

Sorry it's taking so long; real life often interferes in these things. I'll clean up the patch and have it posted in the next couple of days.

Bump for great justice. Any plans on releasing the patch, even if it's not cleaned up?
