Super Mario War Wii and Wii homebrew!
« on: May 27, 2008, 08:23:45 PM »
Well, the other one became horribly outdated, so i decided to make a new one.  here it is!

Disclaimer:
You are attempting this mod on your own.  Attempting to do this mod will void your warranty and may brick your wii.  I do not condone the use of this mod in any matter, and am not responsible for the outcome.

Ok.  now that my disclaimer is out of the way, lets get cracking.

First make sure you have all of the following in this list.  you MUST have the following items or the hack will not work.  i will not answer any retarded questions concerning other methods or asking if there are other ways.

Quote
*A wii (duh)
*A wiimote
*A nunchuck
*An SD card
*[s:225pbxxd]The legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess Wii Version (if you have a modchip a "backup" will also work)[/s:225pbxxd] (never mind, you can use this method or any of the other methods.  ill leave the instructions for the twilight hack here though and ill add a section on banner bomb.)

If you have all of the following then you may continue.

Next we need to determine your wii Firmware version.

You can find this under your wii settings in the upper right hand corner.  if you are having trouble locating this then watch the following video.

[youtube:225pbxxd]JErcY5mwWxk[/youtube:225pbxxd]

select the appropriate spoiler depending on your version.

4.0 or later
[spoilers:225pbxxd]Start trying bannerbomb: http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/[/spoilers:225pbxxd]

3.4
[spoilers:225pbxxd]If you have twilight princess read the quoted text
Quote
For 3.4 you need the special 3.4 version of the twilight hack.  This can be found here  you will also need the latest version of the Homebrew channel which can be found here
If you dont then use bannerbomb[/spoilers:225pbxxd]

3.3 and earlier
[spoilers:225pbxxd]If you have twilight princess read the quoted text
Quote
For 3.3 and earlier you will need the 3.3 version of the twilight hack which can be found here and the latest version of the homebrew channel which can be found here.
If you dont then use bannerbomb[/spoilers:225pbxxd]

Follow the instructions from the banner bomb site to set up the installer.  my old tutorial has been spoilered below for reference.

[spoilers:225pbxxd]once you have the following files downloaded, extract them and place the boot.dol in the root directory of your card. and install the twilight hack by placing the wii the correct data.bin file from the twilight hack onto your SD card.  it should be located in /private/wii/title/rzdX/ (x being your region where J is japan, E is america, and P is europe and australia.)

Here is a video of the above process.

[youtube:225pbxxd]Lgmim4RYAnI[/youtube:225pbxxd]

also, here is a step by step by the wiibrew community:
Code: [Select]
   1.  Ensure your SD card is formatted as FAT. By default SD cards are formatted as FAT, so if you're not sure you can skip this step.
   2. (Optional) If you have an existing Zelda save that you want to backup, do so before proceeding:
         1. Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
         2. Go into Wii Options --> Data Management --> Save Data --> Wii
         3. Find your Zelda save, click on it, click "Copy", and click Yes
         4. Put your SD card in your computer, and copy the "private" folder from the card to a safe place.
   3. Copy the "private" directory from the Twilight Hack download to the root of your SD card.
   4. Take your homebrew Wii executable (elf or dol file) and save it in the root directory of your SD card as "boot.elf" or "boot.dol" as appropriate.
   5. Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
   6. Go into Wii Options --> Data Management --> Save Data --> Wii.
   7. Find your Zelda save, click on it, click "Erase", and click Yes.
   8. Open the SD card and select the "Twilight Hack" save that corresponds to your game region. Note: Some people are having problems with the Wii not "seeing" the save file on the SD card. If you are experiencing this, try setting the archive bit for the data.bin file - in Windows this can be either be done from the file's properties dialog (right click on it in Windows Explorer and check the box) or from the command line using "attrib +a <path to data.bin>". More info at #wiihelp on Efnet.
   9. Click copy and then yes. Now exit out of the menu.
  10. If you are using System Menu 3.4, you must immediately put the Twilight Hack to use. Turning off or running some other channel or game will have the System Menu delete the savegame again, and you'll have to start over.
  11. Insert The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess game disc and run the game.
          * If you have the USA version of the game, load the "TwilightHack0" or "TwilightHack2" version of the game as appropriate (see above).
          * Otherwise, load the only "Twilight Hack" save game.
  12. Once in the game, either walk backwards or talk to the man standing in front of you.
  13. Follow the instructions listed on the screen.
  14. Enjoy.

Here is a video of the installation process once you have your SD card in.

Good job!  you have installed the Homebrew channel!  now we can do tons more...

First lets install the homebrew browser.  if you have wifi on your wii the app will keep all of your homebrew apps updated for you and will allow you to install tons of apps from an easy to use database.
download the homebrew browser

to install this create a folder called "apps" in the root of your wii SD card (provided there isnt already a folder called apps) and copy the folder called "homebrew_browser" from the download into it.

Then launch the homebrew channel with your SD card in and welcome to the amazing world of homebrew! you can download SMWar wii right from there!
to add content to SMWarii simply drag the appropriate content in the "smw" folder in the root of your SD card to its appropriate folders

NOTE!  DUE TO LIMITATIONS WITH SDL YOU CANNOT MODIFY THE GAME'S MUSIC!  IT IS CURRENTLY HARD-CODED!

if you wish to install wii apps on your own you can get the wii port of SMWar here download
It is based on 1.8 b2

also, if you wish to download all apps for the wii and install them yourself you can find all of them here.

Sorry to double post, but the wii homebrew channel has been updated to version 8!  let your wii auto download this update from the channel itself.
Beta 8 changes include:
    * you don’t need to eject your memcards anymore
    * switched from IOS35 to IOS21, this makes the hbc usable on older firmwares
    * improved SD card loading performance (thanks, svpe!)
    * improved some translations
    * the IP label isn’t cut off anymore
    * fixed argv support when loading SD apps
    * fixed a minor wiiload issue
    * the SD app entries are now sorted alphabetically
    * wiimote rumble support
    * installer overhaul, it now warns you if your System Menu is too new (future updates)

i have also included a new content package which has many new programs (including a touhou clone, and several emulators!)

Mirror 1 - rapid share
Mirror 2 - File Dropper

EDIT:  there is some content in there that some people may find offensive.
Specifically:
[spoilers:5jb8zclm]there is an app that allows you to bounce a girls boobs around lol.  It doesnt show anything though.  If this is too problematic, then i will edit the rars and re-upload them[/spoilers:5jb8zclm]

sorry for double post, but while i was working with turndawg on installing his HBC the other day we came across a rather large bug.  The HBC will not run any apps unless you remove all game cube memory cards! Remove all gamecube memory cards before you launch the channel!

I have a quick question regarding the MAME emulator.  I got it up and running, but when I load a game, it goes through the loading, initializing, and then the decoding processes just fine. Heck, even the screen changes alignments to fit the game being loaded.  Then it just sends me back to the main menu.  If you could provide some insight it would be very much appreciated.

Edit: nevermind, I got it working.  I sure hope they improve on the performance.  I really like ESP RaDE, but I'd love it more if it didn't lag as much.

Wow, this stuff's pretty neat, although I wouldn't want to run the risk of voiding my warranty. My little sis's not the most careful person in the world.
[spoilers]Pull something stupid like that with your sig again and you lose it forever.

I have no clue what you're talking about and it doesn't matter now.[/spoilers]

More info has become available about nintendo's ability to see what info you have stored on your wii.

Quote
ok 1st off this is used at your own risk, when IOS37 comes in nintendo will have the power to brick your wii if these are installed, so if you use this, either dont update your wii, or wait for a report on how safe this is with ISO37

as i said befor nintendo will detect all of these channels and will more than likely brick your wii, this goes for ANYTHING YOU INSTALL WITH THIS, basicaly a ticket is installed on your wii, this wont match what nintendo have on there servers for your personal wii serial, and it will brick, END OF. this should only be used for homebrew files, anything else may have more chance of bricking your wii

For some reason, I cannot reproduce the problem. I must have been too tired that night. As it stands, current system menu running under IOS37 with a homebrew channel installed does not cause bricking. Marcan 18:10, 26 March 2008 (PDT)

more info can be found here  :

On top of that, Version 3.3 update also disables Freeloaders so Europeans can't play thier imported wii games.

this is because of the trucha signing bug being patched.

I mean it probably has nothing to do with the fact that homebrew can run emulators and play the virtual console games for free, right
