Peardian's 1.8 maps
« on: April 22, 2008, 11:22:43 AM »
1.8 maps

Considering I've technically touched up all my previous maps, this topic will simply be stuff that I've created that's unique to 1.8. So far, it's just four. For the greatest safety, I'm using sendspace to host the zip.

Loopy
Fun with continuous platforms, as I'm sure several of you have already done. :P The item block, however, is real. You might need to get my background from my normal content topic.

Falling Falling Fight
One of my favorite concepts. Name is the Japanese title for Checkerboard Chase in Kirby 64.

Grinder
Scramble across the tiny platforms as you avoid your doom! Will need my currently unreleased background Castle_CastleCrush.

Tantalizing
Simple enough, right? Unless you know the myth, that is. Will need my until-now-unused background Underground_Underwhere

I've also made several worlds, but, unfortunately, that's all they are. I haven't actually gotten to the whole "writing a tour" part. When they're finished, they'll be near-perfect replicas of the SMB3 worlds to the best of my abilities, using my (unreleased) SMB3 replica maps. So for now, just pictures. :3

Note that I am keeping Worlds 5 and 8 secret. ;D

Link901 already beat you to having perfect replicas of SMB3 worlds Peardian.

I also never liked the fact that I had to download backgrounds with your maps and imageshack just makes it so much worse because I have to take a wild guess and stab at what the filename the map refers to...eh, maybe later.

This time I forgot to include the backgrounds in the zip and only realized it until I already had the topic halfway done. :P

And I provide the intended filename with the image. :P

Considering Link901 lost his world maps, he has given me the go-ahead to finish mine. :P

Also, once 1.8 is released to the public, I'm going to create a map pack that has all the maps I made before but updated, custom backgrounds included. However, I'm wondering if I should also release a "normal background" version as well, seeing as some people don't like downloading custom backgrounds. Would that be favorable? Or would including all the backgrounds be convenient enough to erase the need for normal backgrounds?

If all the backgrounds can be packaged together with the maps and you do it right, it probably won't be necessary at all to do a normal background version.

But then there are people that just don't like custom backgrounds at all. So I don't know.

Y'know, as for the stuff that could've been done differently between the world maps, you and I did them almost the same... weird.

And as for the map packs, I'd say do one of each, just to be on the safe side.
By the way, Peardian, there's a tiny fault in your World 4 map.
The rockpile above the rightmost Spade Bonus can be destroyed with a hammer, so you might wanna make that a red lock too.

Oh, and just to be a prick, you forgot the Warp Zone world. :P

Hey Peardian, if you want to make SMB3 maps, maybe you can look into BS SMB3. The maps are like shrunk down versions of the original game's. It has been a while since I played it though.

Actually, I made the SMB3 maps a while ago but never put any use into them until now. In fact, I made them a while before Big JM made his.

Regardless of the sight of a world called "SMB3" showing up in the latest update to the beta, I'll still push forward with my SMB3 recreation worlds. I already have the first five completely scripted.

In the mean time, new map!

Tower of the Sun
a normal background XD
My first new map in a while that isn't part of the DKC2 project. The strange viewpoint thing started as a small experiment. Only the foreground can be interacted with. I used a motionless platform to position the disco ball in the center.

Another map!

Volcanic Rain
another normal background
Er, ignore the garble along the top. That's a bug. XD Don't worry, the frequency on all of them is set to the lowest possible.
