Nintendo: First Party is the only party
« on: March 12, 2008, 04:51:45 PM »
I think that many of us have noticed that the Wii and DS have been extremely dependent on first party games produced by Nintendo. Looking at the best games for each system, it's clear that third party games haven't been helping the sales of either system. Despite this, both systems have overcome these obsticles and exceeded many people's expetations.

Can (and will) this continue to happen, or will third party games have to lend a hand in order for both systems to continue being successful? Discuss.

The DS is kind of dying, so third party games are necessary to keep it alive.

But some of the games I love are third party.
Hell, I probably own more third party than first party.

It's not really a matter of the systems being dependent on first-party titles, but more so that third parties don't actually put in very much effort to make DS and Wii games good.  Third parties know that DS and Wii are popular hot-sellers and therefore believe that they can easily slap together a terrible PoS game and actually expect some sort of profit.  If the game sells poorly(for obvious reasons), the third parties blame Ninty's stellar first-party work.  Of course, certain companies have actually figured out how to make quality games on DS and Wii, like Konami for the Castlevania DS titles, Atlus for Trauma Center, Capcom for the(poorly done but still high quality) RE4 port as well as Umbrella Chronicles and the fantastic Zack & Wiki, and [s:2fieb0bg]Ubisoft[/s:2fieb0bg] Suda51 for No More Heroes, which should NOT be obscured by SSBB like it is.

Nintendo's was a dick about third party until recently. Unfortunately, the third party games they DID let in were just older games with Wii remote support slapped on, just like Turndawg said.

However, that doesn't mean there are no good third-party titles. You just need to find them.

I remember Conker's Bad Fur Day for N64...
good times.
Some of the games are okay I guess.
But I can see how Nintendo wants it to have only Nintendo titles.
