SMB1 Game Genie thread of epic winness. PHEAR F-ZERO GOOMBAS

Right, so last night in IRC was epic.

Apparently LKA was doing some kind of score contest or something (oh yeah I see the thread now), because everyone was playing SMB1 when I came in. o_O
And then at some point we moved on to Game Genie codes.

And all hell broke loose.

I tossed APNOPE into the ring, which gave random levels with all the enemies looking like headless Bowsers. lol wut.

Then Dude said he got invisible levels with AXAENT, and I was like "oh cool".

Then I decided to try playing with STAGEO as well (the infamous "everybody throws hammers" code, remember? :p), and chronicled the sad tale of my getting owned in 1-2 by blind jumps and goombas.

right, so anyway here's the basic stuff:

SXIOPO:
Infinite lives.
(Yeah, right out of the official codebook. :p)

TTLZSN:
Infinite time.

AEPLLG:
Infinite jumping; you don't have to be on the ground to jump.

SZLIVO:
Part of an old 3-part code to keep powerups once you get them, but this one part is enough...it's just, once you have a powerup, you just switch size every time you get hit. SMALL FIRE MARIO FTW

EEESKA:
Invincibility.
...except to fire-bars and hammers. -_-

APNOPE:
Random levels, and all the enemies are headless Bowsers.
Better take AEPLLG along in case massive pits show up. <_<

AXAENT:
INVISIBLE LEVELS ZOMG

STAGEO:
STOP! HAMMERTIME!

Right. Time to move on to bigger and better things. :p

So after that, I tried to remember an old code I'd found years ago that changed Mario's colors. I'd forgotten it for years, but suddenly SEAAAI came to me, and messing around with it I found SEKAAI, which made everything look like underwater, and SESAAI, which turned the sky purple. o_O

Then I noticed that FCEU (I'd been entering these codes in FCE Ultra's cheat menu) was telling me that SESAAI changed address 5df or something like that. This piqued my interest, because I remembered from my years of hacking SMB1 that the sky colors were indeed somewhere around that address in the rom...

I played around with certain letters of the code, trying to find the address for Mario's shirt and shoes, and eventually arrived at ZEIEZI, which turned said shirt blue. CORRECT COLORS FOR GREAT JUSTICE

SEKAAI:
EVERYTHING is underwater-colored. wtf.

SESAAI:
Dark purple sky, though not in daytime levels with white pipes (5-1, 5-2, and 7-1).
LOL WUT.

ZEIEZI:
Mario has blue hair, shirt, and shoes

POIEGS AOIETS:
Luigi uses his GBC version colors (not for fire flowers though...original SMB1 only has one set of values for both plumbers' fire flower color schemes -_-)

POIEGS ZEIETI:
Green and blue Luigi

TUIEPI YEIEZS:
SMB3 Mario colors

ZXIEGS TUIEII YEIETS:
SMB3 Luigi colors

YXTAAI TUTAPI:
SMB3 Fire Mario colors

AUTAAI GXTAPS PETAZI:
Fire Mario has Ice Mario colors o_O

Then it hit me to combine this knowledge with my old hacking notes, which listed a bunch of addresses changing various stuff. I got out FCEUABS's Game Genie code encoder/decoder and got to work.

CHAOS ENSUED.

LOSIZLPZ:
Piranha plants come up when you're closer to the pipe, like in SMB2J

IESIZLPZ:
You have to be almost dead center on the pipe to keep the plant in

AESIZLPZ:
Plants ALWAYS come up no matter what. OH SNAP

XVVSYLEO XVNIAUPO:
Plants are faster

ZZVVEAPZ:
Plants are red

LZVVEAPZ:
Plants are black

ETEKGUEY:
Most 1st quest enemies are faster. Koopas and beetles return to normal after being stomped though.
LKA probably put it best:

Turbo speed koopas/beetles in 2nd quest after recovering, if they go right first

EVSGNPKY:
Turbo speed koopas/beetles in 2nd quest after recovering, if they go left first

EZEKGUEY, EZEKILKY, AVSGKOAA, EXSGSOEY, AVSGVOGA, and EXSGNPKY:
Same as the above 6 codes, but:

Fire flowers are replaced with mushrooms, but they still give you fire. XD

Items are given as normal until you have a fire flower, then you get stars instead of more flowers. o_O

IEKLXPZA:
Bullet bill cannons shoot more often. lol.

That code is awesome; at least until you get to world 1-2, where the code causes a fault in the pipe's programming. If you go into the pipe, you just "respawn" at the beginning of the level.

Also, for those of you with Jnes, I have a savestate that forces the player into a strange coin heaven-like level. Due to a blockade somewhere in the beginning that will stop progress in the level, I have enabled a walk-through-walls cheat that allows you to walk through the pipe. Causes random crap. (Enemies out of nowhere for example) but pipes make you do the whole level again.

It causes a ton of fun errors, but the graphics remain clear and normal (ie, Toad as an enemy, Bowser appears as Princess Peach, ect.)

4matsy, what emulator do you use? My emulator keeps saying "Invalid code" for some of those.

EDIT: Never mind, I got another emulator that works perfectly.

Enemies walk through walls. Combine this with F-Zero Enemies for maximum lulz.

If you feel brave enough, add GNATUE for.. well, you'll figure out what it does soon enough. I hope you have awesome reaction time if you're combining that with F-Zero Goomba and enemies walk through walls also. It might be best. :V

GIAOKG -


1-1 is 4-1 with UNDERWATER PALLETTE with underwater ground, everything else is overworld gfx.
1-2 is 5-3 with underwater pallette, mixed up gfx, bowser in the start (yes, bowser at the beginning)
1-3 is 1-3, few changes here (Jumps are quicker)
1-4 is a 6-2 with some new stuff and underwater pallette. Be careful, it freezes some times.
1-5 (Yes. 1-5) is 1-3 with even less changes then before
1-6 (...) is 1-1 with underwater gfx/pallette.. swimming, lots of vents. May freeze.
1-7 is the exact same as 1-2, 5-3 with bowser, mixed up gfx,  and underwater pallette. Some minor changes (You're swimming this time)
1-8 is a loop, or so BMP says. For me it just half-froze. Game was still going and I was blowing bubbles... but no going to next stage
