Right, so last night in IRC was epic.
Apparently LKA was doing some kind of score contest or something (oh yeah I see the thread now), because everyone was playing SMB1 when I came in. o_O
And then at some point we moved on to Game Genie codes.
And all hell broke loose.
I tossed APNOPE into the ring, which gave random levels with all the enemies looking like headless Bowsers. lol wut.
Then Dude said he got invisible levels with AXAENT, and I was like "oh cool".
Then I decided to try playing with STAGEO as well (the infamous "everybody throws hammers" code, remember? :p), and chronicled the sad tale of my getting owned in 1-2 by blind jumps and goombas.
right, so anyway here's the basic stuff:
(Yeah, right out of the official codebook. :p)
Infinite jumping; you don't have to be on the ground to jump.
Part of an old 3-part code to keep powerups once you get them, but this one part is enough...it's just, once you have a powerup, you just switch size every time you get hit. SMALL FIRE MARIO FTW
...except to fire-bars and hammers. -_-
Random levels, and all the enemies are headless Bowsers.
Better take AEPLLG along in case massive pits show up. <_<

So after that, I tried to remember an old code I'd found years ago that changed Mario's colors. I'd forgotten it for years, but suddenly SEAAAI came to me, and messing around with it I found SEKAAI, which made everything look like underwater, and SESAAI, which turned the sky purple. o_O
Then I noticed that FCEU (I'd been entering these codes in FCE Ultra's cheat menu) was telling me that SESAAI changed address 5df or something like that. This piqued my interest, because I remembered from my years of hacking SMB1 that the sky colors were indeed somewhere around that address in the rom...
I played around with certain letters of the code, trying to find the address for Mario's shirt and shoes, and eventually arrived at ZEIEZI, which turned said shirt blue. CORRECT COLORS FOR GREAT JUSTICE
EVERYTHING is underwater-colored. wtf.
Dark purple sky, though not in daytime levels with white pipes (5-1, 5-2, and 7-1).
Mario has blue hair, shirt, and shoes
Luigi uses his GBC version colors (not for fire flowers though...original SMB1 only has one set of values for both plumbers' fire flower color schemes -_-)

Then it hit me to combine this knowledge with my old hacking notes, which listed a bunch of addresses changing various stuff. I got out FCEUABS
's Game Genie code encoder/decoder and got to work.
Piranha plants come up when you're closer to the pipe, like in SMB2J
You have to be almost dead center on the pipe to keep the plant in
Plants ALWAYS come up no matter what. OH SNAP
Plants are faster
Plants are red
Plants are black
Most 1st quest enemies are faster. Koopas and beetles return to normal after being stomped though.

Fire Mario's fireballs fall veeeeeeery slowly

Coin counter now has 3 digits but still gives you lives every 100. wtf.
Fire flowers are replaced with mushrooms, but they still give you fire. XD
Items are given as normal until you have a fire flower, then you get stars instead of more flowers. o_O
Bullet bill cannons shoot more often. lol.
