[discussion] no PMs?
« on: May 07, 2007, 01:11:32 PM »
Hi guys,

i know you're a bit bitter about the lack of a PM feature in blahblah, but what about this:

every member has a nice "contact me" link, which will lead you to a page with various ways to contact the member. this will still mean that blahblah won't keep a pm inbox for you, *but* it will still be really easy as to send messages to other members.

or?

hmm... or what about having a thread for every member that anyone might send something too.

so basically you don't have pms, but anyone can "write you" via "your thread".

this would make messages sent to you visible to all other members, but at least we'd have an inbox for you.

or wait....

what do you use PMs for most of the time?

personally I really only use them for sending official warnings

maybe there could be a PM form that sends the member email and then it could give a popup window like it does here when there's a new PM and then it like says "close window" and you like check your inbox

unrelated: if there are Invalid Session things on this board then I'll cry --;

For going off-topic without making everyone else in the thread read it while also keeping it on the forum.

Also, for asking questions that you do not want everyone else to see, although the email thing works for that.

The thing about PMs is that it allows you to keep your email address private and still allows other people to leave messages for you.  If you're planning on releasing this thing to the whole internet, there are gonna be people who have issues with not being able to keep all their contact info private.

I tend to receive more than I give out.

Oh right, we're talking about PMs...

Talking to someone privately thru the board itself, not having to give your SN out of anything else.

hmm... i see a point in what you say.

i might re-think the pm issue, but not in the first release of blahblah. there's more important stuff to be done atm ;)

I'd be just fine with anonymous email.  Private conversations, with no risk.  No one actually checks their PM inbox from the forum, do they? (no one with a life, that is *ducks*)

Um, it alerts you when you get PM's and I get them very often, well not Thaaaat often, but still a good amount per month.

PM's are like my instant messenger. I don't use them often. BUT, I have a bunch from Tiptup about something important about Super Mario War.

I thought of one other thing earlier today at work: Having a PM system allows you to edit or delete messages that you've sent, as long as the person you've sent them to hasn't read them yet.

OK, but that's really the only advantage over email.  You should look before you send, anyway :)

I use PMs whenever I have to ask ONE person somethin.
Or tell ONE person something, and I don't wanna make a thread for it.

Or if I wanna tell someone something and I want them to see it asap.
