Rep feature?
« on: March 01, 2007, 11:18:30 PM »
It would be nice to be able to "+rep" people.  You know, say thank you for a constructive post or something.  What I mean is, besides having postcount (if you do postcount), have another counter or something for the number of times that someone found their posts helpful.  This would be good because (especially on large forums) it makes it easier to see which members are helpful and which ones can safely be ignored.  ;)

Good idea, Jared.

Maybe we could use the "Thank you" feature which was on supermariowar.com forums?

this is already on my todo list (albeit it will be worked on later than other features).

the goal is to have a rather self-moderated forum. you can add people to your friends/enemies list. if you add someone to your enemy list you'll never see one of his posts again. (don't dare to start "hey, but then i miss his posts" - after all it was *your* decision to put him on that list, it's called *enemy* list for a reason and well... it just is that way.)

a rep system will likely be based on a thumbs-up / thumbs-down voting on a per-post basis. however at the start of a month your rep starts with neutral. (you can still view previous months though).

Maybe a monthly one next to an overall one?

Yeah, it can be abused if negative rep would be there. Rep is a good idea, as long as people can only vote like, once a week or something.

No, just once per post.  If someone posts a lot of helpful things, they should be able to be thanked for all of them.
