[discussion] no signatures / no PMs?
« on: January 07, 2007, 10:34:35 AM »
(splitted from another topic, ... here's just the discussion about ommiting signatures and PMs)

[...] also it will neither support private messages nor signatures.

So that means no more PMs or sigs? Those are some of the best things I liked about this board. Oh well, we'll just have to get used to that, then.

yup. no more pms and sigs.

pm's are really useless: you already have mail, im, etc.
and sigs.... sigs are a pure waste of precious screen space.

No, not really - it allows people to contact you without knowing your email address, if you so desire.

@tiptup300: signatures and pm's just shouldn't be the major feature of any forum software ;)

@sykotic: i am the administrator. i have ways and means to do anything

@jared: good point. not enough to bother implementing it though.

Signature wouldnt really be that difficult to code thou...PM isnt needed, but Sigz is like a major part of a lot of forums.

unfortunately. sigs are plain annoying and don't contribute to the forum.

very few people follow the links, but they clutter things up for regular visitors.

Depends on the quality of the sigz, some big sites with people who have E-MAZING talent make the forum look better on each page

EDIT: No center in phpBB? That just about sucks... + I cant use any avatars

update: still no plans to support signatures.

i'm still evaluating PMs though. while i won't work on them for quite some time, it's something i'm still somewhat i'm thinking about. there are definately some pros/cons to PMing via boards.

hm... i think if i provide an easy way to send mails via the board (and hide your email address if desired) and add an easy way to reply to mails, i could omit creating a seperate PM system.

...hm... that really sounds good :)

Instead of a sig, then, how about an updated profile page, almost like (gasp) MySpace?

pm is needed to make complaints or talk in private, especially if you don't have msn etc
