Project description
« on: January 05, 2007, 02:34:11 AM »
blahblah
a bulletin board that doesn't suck
============================================
one of my new projects: a web forum software thingy.

why? all the forums out there currently suck major ass. we're in dire need of something that just works (tm).

And i'm working on changing that ;)

If you're curious: it uses ruby on rails. This means 1) that you won't be able to use this on your-old-php-only-webhoster and 2) that i'm able to develop this at the speed of light (tm).

current status:
 * works, but not yet ready for the outside world (though i'm already running a a little communty for some friends wihth blahblah^^)
 * active development: yes

as always: stay tuned

PHP is actually a great language, I make the majority of my income from it :P

Anyway, haevn't you heard of YaBB florian?

All you need is Perl support, its like "it just works" (it just works is apparently trademark of Apple, even though OS X doesnt "just work" its a false paradigm, most of the products on OS X are made with that paradigm in mind, and thus they all suck and have shitty error catching with the exception of Cinema 4D which actually can handle OS X's horrible memory leaks instead of just crapping out).

Anyway... YaBB is perl and uses a flat file database, which means the database is a file(s), instead of connecting to a 'service', like how apps in the good ol days used to be.

Skinnable, moddable, themeable to do anything, and look like anything, it comes with a -lot- of functions out of the box, that you need to install extras into phpBB to handle (like image attachments :P)

It's also quite fast.

I believe you'll find that is not the case

"In late 2001 ProBoards switched to the YaBB system"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProBoards

YaBB is a great stock system with great performance also, you shouldn't compare it to ProBoards like that.

Also... car's go a lot faster with wheels ;)

PHP currently also takss care of my income, BUT after you discover a real programming language like ruby or python you'll realize that PHP is made of FAIL and CRAP.

Are you taking suggestions at this time?

Someone (no, I don't mean Someman) thought of adding a [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tag.
