If you right-click->view image it goes into the favicon...area next to the navigation bar -- try it...

Because there's no reason to. I think there's quite a bit else that needs more attention then figuring out how to get favicons to work under phpbb. (and if you PM or post a step by step guide on how to do it I swear to god I will delete this topic)
