A Super Cat Tales Mod for Super Mario War 1.8 Beta 2
by Jaden1291 the Toad aka. agenthexagon/AgentJDN

Introduction
Hello! This is my first post on 72dpiarmy forum, and this is a development thread for my SMWar mod "Super Cat Wars."

What is Super Cat Wars? It changes every aspect of Super Mario War into the style of Super Cat Tales and the Neutronized game universe in general. Super Cat Tales is one of my recent favorite games, and I had the idea of making this mod in a long time since the first time I created the skins for characters Alex, Olli, and Shinji, and modifying the music in the game to use SCT music.

I started making this mod since August 21, 2019.

My goal for Super Cat Wars is to make it a building block for rebuilding Super Mario War's popularity, since I'm planning to upload this mod to the Super Cat Tales official Discord server, MFGG forums, and the Super Mario War discord server.

Story
In Super Cat Wars, a battle royale tournament is being held in Cat Land... by Gionathan and me! When it's done, of course. I can't make any promises! And I have school to tackle as well so don't expect any fast progress.

Game downloads will be posted on the 72dpiarmy forums, Super Mario War Discord, 1up World, MFGG MyBB forums, Super Cat Tales Discord server, and my personal Discord server. New progress screenshots will be posted mostly on the Super Cat Tales and SMWar Discord servers!

Graphic Arts Board / [WEBCOMIC] D-D-D-Danger Vu by MasterLederhosen

Now, I'm aware this forum's pretty dead as it is, but I figured it wouldn't hurt. I'm currently working on another webcomic series inspired by Dragon Ball, JoJo, Power Rangers, and a bunch of other stuff.

The story's fairly basic (so far). The champion of an intergalactic fighting pit breaks her bones right before a tournament and her manager seeks out a doppelganger on an Earth-like planet. Meanwhile, said doppelganger, a police officer, struggles to keep up with essentially steroid-chugging criminals and her corrupt coworkers, who also chug. Everyone chugs but her and her partner. Then the aliens show up and they strike a deal.

Now for the actual pitch, here's what you can expect:
- mechs, exosuits, spaceships with massive robotic arms
- wall-running pedestrian biker gangs
- shapeshifter illusionist assassin skeletons
- a martial art based solely on the use of microbiological fairies that reside in and feed on matter itself
- an aged, but still powerful dad, so powerful he doesn't consider the idea of using doors
- everyone beating the everloving crap out of one another
And much more. I just need to think of stuff.

Currenly, it's available on:

2. IMGUR: https://imgur.com/a/I6wbzDN

Feel free to give me feedback and ideas in here, I'd much appreciate it.

Wonderful, I've been rusty with modding and content creation, I will give it a chance now that SMW reboots to an original ip, opening the possibilities of official console portings. I would like to contribute with skins and some other graphics.

Super Mario War / SMW in 2019, Where Do We Go From Here?
« Last post by SsF on May 21, 2019, 06:00:28 PM »
Super Mario War's latest update came out in 2009. It has been almost 10 years now since changes have been made to the game.

Certainly, we've tried doing other things. Archives of which still exist throughout this forum.

In the last few months, we've been discussing the possibility of reviving SMW, adding needed features for a game in this age, and giving it needed updates to continue being the excellent, if simple, game that it is.

As it stands, we have a small group of people who are interested in making this work, from discussions in our Discord. Below is a simple plan for proposed changes to get this game back out into the world:

networking skeleton of classic is highest priority (players moving around and stomping other players). after that is set up we can worry about adding items, interactable tiles, etc
- initially will start with 1.8 and try to strip features for networking, if that fails we will go back to 1.6 since it has fewer moving parts and work up from there re-adding

once networking works out we redesign the graphics so nintendo doesn't breathe down our necks. the current popular theming is toys
- keeping the 16-bit snes aesthetic
- keep it simple, stupid. no new graphical features or anything
- tileset should keep old mario war tileset in consideration for map preservation
- we keep the stock smw assets (0smw, tileset, goombas etc) as an optional skin pack and also release it separate from the main game

We welcome and even request support and help in this endeavor. Currently only one of us has shown particular interest in doing the code for this, and the job of going through the old code and making sense of it - even before making changes to it - is daunting. We want to have major discussion in the Discord as well as in the forum, so that we have an archive of discussion and decisions made that we can look back at for reference as we move forward.

I would like this thread to be a location for discussion on what we can, should, and should not do to get this game back off the ground. For more collaboration and a spot to go over the details of things, I recommend joining the 72dpiarmy discord, which is located here: https://discord.gg/SC4uXQB

Super Mario War / Functioning Super Mario War for Wii?
« Last post by abt22 on April 01, 2019, 01:05:17 AM »
New here, and new to homebrew. I just got a Wii last week, and I've been trying to get a working version of Super Mario War on it. I've tried various download links from GitHub (specifically, v.1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4) but every time I download a different version and replace the files on my SD card, when I try to start it on my Wii, the game loading screen says v1.8 beta. Have all the files on GitHub been replaced with the most recent beta version? Is there a way I can get a more stable/usable download? Or is there a way that I can get 1.8 beta to work on my Wii? Any help/advice would be appreciated.
