Title: Worlds confusion
Post by: KingPepe on April 16, 2008, 06:42:17 PM
Ok, I'm really confused with how to make a world and all that. (I know the buttons but there is some other crap like how to insert maps and yeah). Can someone give me like a tutorial on how to make a world?

The world editor is working for most things like laying land, water, pathways, connections, foreground objects, etc. but it doesn't do vehicle or stage creation. Once you have created these things in the file manually, you can use the editor to place them, but not create them. There are two sample worlds that show you what the file should look like.

Ok, so I put in a few maps I wanted for the world in the text but when I test it, it acts like no map exists there. o_o

Did you place the stages in the world using the editor first? General idea of creating worlds goes in this order:

World Editor (Creating land)
Text Editor (Creating Stages)
World Editor (Placing Stages)

It's not exactly intuitive I know but it's what you have to do.

Yeah, the world editor is version 1.0 so there is a lot still left to work out.  We'll need to have someone write a good tutorial that we can point the general public to help them out or we're going to get lots of questions/complaints.

Hey Two52,I do remember you saying you put the pipe minigame in world mode, right? How do I put one in my own world?

Set the mode in your map to super secret "24".  The goal number is the number of coins you have to collect to win.  A 3 minute game would be probably 30.  The map field is ignored and there are no mode settings.

Just to make sure, when you're placing the stages, do you just slap the object on the world and then it reads it? Or do you have to do more then that?

Yes, first you add your stages to the world file just like tours.  Then make sure you close the txt in your text editor and then open the world editor.  Now just place the stages in the "T" menu.
