Title: Who here has had spyware and knows a good way to remove it?
Post by: Jester Frog on April 14, 2008, 06:57:14 PM
I figure someone here is at least a bit more trustful than some forum I've never been on so I decided to ask here. Anybody have any good methods of removal that they'd like to share? And please don't direct me to anything that's all "Free Anti-Spyware Thingo (that actually installs more spyware"... Please?

Okay, downloaded it and running it... now if only I had a way to convince my dad to use it instead of going out and buying Norton or whatever. Unfortunately "some people on the internet told me to" isn't going to fly too well.

people need to realize that for everything you can pay for on the internet, there's a free* alternative.

*may or may not include piracy

The problem is he's been fed the whole "everything that's supposed to be a "free anti-spyware thing" is ALSO spyware. Which is true a lot of the time but not ALL of the time.

Avast + Spybot + Yahoo Anti-Spy + AVG = Epic Win.

I run any one of these four and I can usually get it. Ironically, Yahoo seems to work the best for me, since the guy who keeps giving me spyware changes my Avast and Spybot settings to allow it. AVG sometimes catches it early, but it can pop up at the worst time. (Like, for instance, when your in a massive fight in AOE3...) Basically:

Spybot: A good, solid, all-aroun spyware remover.
Avast: A good backup
AVG: Works great, but the constant updates are stupid annoying.
Yahoo: If the virus persists, use this, it will find it.
