Not really, all you have to do is gray scale a copy of the original, and you have gray numbers.

-_- That was on the first page and you JUST relised I said that?

Man, yer slow. Anyways I dont TRY graphic design when it comes to fan games and stuff, I just do it for fun. This Zash sprite, In my signature, is over 3 years old. I can do about 79x better than that now, so just stop following me and do something on your own.

Anyway, where do you get the sprites from NSMB?! I look EVERYWHERE but I cant find them...

There are no easily usable sprites for spiny and buzzy shells in NSMB because the game renders those in 3D.

I can't seem to make spikes on the spike shell, so I made it that the shell is super hot...?

I did the star power up...
someone can change the colors for this to flash...

Fire flower done...

now someone can make this into the mystery, death, and the UP mushrooms...

EDIT:
dammit

Dark Mike beat me to it!

EDIT2:
ehh, dark mike's mushrooms are really tilted and it seems the colors are really reallly bad O.o

hey darkmike, try to recolor mine! And... shade the question mark...

Well, about the colors, i preffer work with 7 or 8 colors than 256, but i will retouch it. The question mark is shaded, if you look closer you will see it follows the mushroom shade.

Ol' Jake's got a thread about NSMW, eh.. and didn't mention me not one damn time... even though I've been workin' on the graphics from the start.  What a pal... makes me glad I screwed him over and decided to work on my own again.  Now watch him come back and submit a pack sayin' he did all the work.

NSMW was the idea of Link901, originally. His helpers are me and Jeko143. Well, Jake, you helped...a bit. Just ripped the music...Duh. Takes about 10 minutes to do. So, when NSMW mod comes out, you all guys will know eho did it really, and who just copied it.
Title:
Post by: Link901 on August 22, 2006, 04:48:24 PM
Actually, you're right Alex.  I was workin' on a graphics set back before SMW.com went down.  I was planning to release it with the 100th skin request I'd done on the site, but because I had so much left to work on, I had to postpone the release.  Since SMW.com's gone, I've been workin' on it even more.  Soon enough, I'll have an entire pack finished and ready to put on here.  And by entire, I mean I'll have changed EVERYTHING.

Believe what you want, Jake.  I was workin' on the graphics pack before you got the idea, so get over it.  If you want credit for it so bad, make one yourself, like I started out doin'.  All you did was the music and sound.  The music you stole from someone else's page... 'cause I'm pretty sure you didn't bother to ask for permission.  And the few sounds you did change weren't even decent quality.  If you're gonna do somethin' like that, at least make it worth the download.

tsk, tsk, Jake. Didn't think you could behave like that. I know you are always searching a way for people to like you, but... Well, you failed. 8)
Stealing other people's ideas and claiming as yours isn't very good.

Stop the argument, and stop "OH! I MADE THIS SHIT FIRST"

You can all calm down, and we can always make another New super mario bros gfx.

Jake, you better stop whining, and calm down, and stop argueing.
Just get back on topic, and let's all TOGETHER HELP make a new super mario bros GFX pack.

...I say it really doesn't matter about this pack.  Even though technically, I was part of the argument, I've gotta agree that it was stupid.  I say that anybody workin' on a NSMB graphics pack should just go ahead however they want.  So what if we'll have two, maybe more packs.  It'll give everybody a few to choose from!
Title:
Post by: Outrage on August 23, 2006, 11:50:42 PM
I just have to add that if Jacob wants to stay in the project new super mario war, he has to do work too, not just command others what to do.
Am not I right?
Title:
Post by: Link901 on August 24, 2006, 12:47:58 AM
That's the point I was meaning to get across to him.  He's got potential, but he lacks some cooperative skills.  If we bring Jake back onto the NSMW Project Team, I expect him to put effort into it like I have.  We still lack a complete sound set, so he's got plenty to work on!  Alex has been helpin' with the graphics, but he can try to help out with sounds too.  Jeko was brought onto the team as a tester, which is basically what each of the other three of us double as... In short, he's our Quality Assurance Dept.  ...come to think of it, we actually increased the team to 6.  There's 2 other guys with a copy of the pack, so they count as a testers too.  So, Jake, if you agree to do that, we'll bring you back onto the team.  This isn't a lie or a mean joke.  I mean it, Jake.  Your lack of patience and cooperation at times does get pretty annoying, but we're still friends, man.  So, whaddaya say?  Wanna make it the full team again?

Title:
Post by: Link901 on August 25, 2006, 08:55:27 PM
Do you mean like coding in new items?? Because none of us know how to.  If you meant the graphics, that's not a problem, I've already redone all of them except the Stopwatch and the Spiny shell.  We've got a temporary Spiny shell till I can get ahold of a good image from NSMB to work with, like I did for the Buzzy Beetle shell.  ...personally, I'd love to learn how to code in new features for SMW, but I'm basically retarded when it comes to that, no offense to anyone out there.

oh...so whats new with the gfx pack?
Title:
Post by: Link901 on September 03, 2006, 11:59:46 PM
...well, it's gonna be a full graphics change.  I'm workin' to change everything that I can to make it styled like NSMB.  So far, only 2 people's graphics are currently in use in the pack.  Mine and Alex-Rus07's.
Here's a simple progress list showin' how far along it is.
Awards - About 90%
Blocks - 100%
Eyecandy - About 45%
Menu - At Most, 10%
Mode Objects - About 40%
Mode Skins - 50%
Powerups - 100%
Projectiles - About 83.5%

The main reason progress is so slow is the lack of NSMB stuff to work with.  Lucky for me, I got really good at working with small images from the skin requests I did back when SMW.com was still up.

Sorry, not goin' to for safety reasons.  Last time I put somethin' up before it was finished, some jerk snagged it, made some cheap fixes, and released it as his own.  It's nobody on here, so don't start pointin' fingers, but I'm not gonna take the chance of it happenin' again.  But you can expect a new teaser shot this Friday!  I'll post a new one every week until the pack's release.
Title:

Title:
Post by: Link901 on September 04, 2006, 01:41:54 AM
Not quite what I meant.  Maybe an example's in order.
Let's say I've been working on a brand new device.  I release this device to the public for testing purposes.  Someone that got ahold of one of the unfinished devices takes it and makes some minor tweaks.  Then, that person releases theirs, claiming they did all the work.
See, that's the kinda thing I'm working to prevent.
It's a dirty, underhanded thing to do, and nobody deserves to have it happen to 'em.
Title:

I don't really wanna ruin the surprise for anybody.  Mods and admins included, sorry.  After all, patience is a virtue... it's takin' a while, but I'd say it should be done before the end of this month.  At least, unless somethin' happens.

Good idea Pikablu!  I was thinkin' of takin' one from Stomp Mode to get up more hype, though.  Even though I think the Goombas look weird... I tried to make 'em face forward but keep 'em in NSMB style.  Everything else looks awesome, though.

My apologies for the double post, but I just wanted to remind everybody that the weekly teaser shot is only two days away!  Plus I'd like to update on how far along the pack is.
Awards - Still about 95%
Blocks - Still done :D
Eyecandy - About 55%
Menu - About 40ish%
Mode Objects - About 60%
Mode Skins - Still 50%
Powerups - Still done :D
Projectiles - About 87%

When I've got everything changed.  I know it's takin' a while, but it'll be done eventually.  It's not an easy task doing custom NSMB style graphics.

I hope the tileset and palette is the same in RC1, otherwise this GFX pack won't be compatible.
Title:
Post by: Link901 on September 13, 2006, 06:41:03 PM
Good point, Pikablu.  I'll have to ask Two52 if there's a possibility of that.  If they do, it should be a quick fix.  Does the pallete even affect the tileset?
Title:
Post by: Dave ‌Strider on September 13, 2006, 06:49:25 PM
Pallete affects players.
Title:
Post by: Link901 on September 13, 2006, 06:54:49 PM
That's what I thought.  So if the tileset changes, I'll just have to make some adjustments, and it'll be ready to go!  Another thing, if more graphics get added in, I'll have to work on those, too.

Thanks, but there's two things about that.
1. We already had someone submit a NSMB Mario.
and 2. There aren't gonna be any skins released with the pack.
Mainly because I can guarantee somebody'll screw it up and complain that it messed up their game.  But after the release, I'll probably put together some NSMB styled skins to use with the pack.

Post by: Mario on September 20, 2006, 11:25:04 PM
Um, just one question, Link, how did this go from Someman's project to yours?
Title:
Post by: Link901 on September 21, 2006, 12:18:38 AM
Well, if you really want to know...

Basically, it started with Someman posting some graphics from NSMB, along with a number font.  SMW Fan, Dark Mike, and somestrangeflea also posted graphics.
Jacob sat by and watched as the project began its foundation.  Eventually, he started talking about the rest of the graphics, to which Someman said:
Quote
Someman - Page 2, Post 6
No Asking me for a Graphic Pack its to much work
Then, a short while later, Jake seemed to have taken control of the project.
Quote
Jacobthehero2006 - Page 2, Post 15
Ok it Getting cooler
Did anyone want a Preview what i done so far?
Preview so far: *picture*
After a while, Justinio came in with a post explaining that he was also working on NSMB graphics for SMW.
Quote
Justinio - Page 6, Post 1
Cool, other people are trying to make NSMB stuff too! I tried to do this, I just never finished. There aren't enough tile pieces. But I'm sure we'll figure out something.

Then, I found out that Jake was in control of a project in which he was using graphics that I'd done in addition to the ones others had posted on the thread, and didn't bother to tell me.
That ended up causing a little kid argument that nearly got the thread locked.
...not sure how it didn't end up locked, but from that point, I started to post about the NSMB graphics work I'd done on my own.
Someman continued to contribute, although it seems as though the pack I'm working on is the only one still in progress.
Basically, that's how I ended up in "control" of the project, if you wanna call it control.

Does that answer your question well enough?
Title:
Post by: Link901 on September 21, 2006, 02:51:43 AM
Sorry for the double post, and for going offtopic... but while I was workin' on some graphics for NSMW, I happened across a setup for the POW and MOd Block Frenzy Cards.  I thought it looked awesome, so I'm sharin' it with everybody here.  It was an easy change, so if you wanna use it, go right ahead.  Just don't claim it as your own work.

Thank you slow progress... the pack's takin' longer than I want it to.  Oh well, I've got plenty of material for teasers.  Maybe I should update on how far along the pack is now.

Awards - About 90%
Blocks - Done
Eyecandy - About 60-70%
Menu - About 50%
Modeobjects - About 90-95%
Modeskins - Still at 50% (Friggin' chicken's a pain to NSMB-ize)
Powerups - Done
Projectiles - Done (May change the Bullet Bill animations though)

Yeah, I guarantee that if you look back at the other times I did this, they don't add up, but they're just estimates.  I don't have time to whip out the math and figure out exactly how far along each part is.

Don't even think about it, Jake.  You get in trouble for animated pictures in your signature.  I'll do what I can tomorrow to make a nice mini-banner for this and other projects I'm working on.  You can use the NSMW banner, since it's intended to be shared by anyone that supports it! :D Same goes for the other project mini-banners!  On second thought, I might make 'em into signature badge-like things... hmmm... well, I've got an extra project for tomorrow!

Ohh, that one.  I can get one like that no problem.
I need one that's decently lit and actually has multiple movement frames.
Oh well, I'll get back to that later.

For now, here's this week's teaser!
As a bonus, you get a 2-in-1 teaser this week!  Ztar Mode and Shine Mode!  The Ztar may look the same, but it's got as much shaded depth as I could add.  With the Shine Sprite, you can tell there's a big difference!

I'd run outta stuff to show so fast...   If I could finish stuff fast enough to keep up with that, I would've had the pack done in a week!

Link, I feel so sorry for you, with you doing all the work.  If I could rip sprites, I'd help you, but I cant, so I wont. You should get someone you can really trust to help you do that.
Title:
Post by: Link901 on October 09, 2006, 08:57:29 PM
Meh, it's not so bad.  At least workin' alone, I don't have to worry about two people's spriting styles colliding, since alot of the stuff has to be custom made.

Bump'd Progress please.
Title:
Post by: Link901 on October 12, 2006, 02:45:52 PM
Ok, I've gotta agree that checkin' the progress is a good idea, since RC2's out.
Awards - 87.5% (The move of two graphics accounts for the drop)
Blocks - Still Done
Eyecandy - 92.5%
Menu - 82.3%
Mode Objects - 95.2%
Mode Skins - Done (FINALLY!)
Powerups - Done
Projectiles - Done
That about sums it up for progress on the stuff I'm lettin' everybody know about.  Oh, and Someman, you need to change your signature.  It's not allowed to be animated.

Title:
Post by: Link901 on October 12, 2006, 03:07:34 PM
Well, I've been doin' all the graphics on my own for a while now... rather not screw with the progress now, since different people's work tends to collide.  Oh, and one quick thing.  Please, I need you to change your avatar a little.  Censor out the f-bomb in the top left.  There's an anti-swearing policy on the forums, and avatars count too.  Thanks.

Hey, Link, I still have the font and all the other gfx that were open to the general public, waaaaaaaaaaay back at the beginning of this topic! It doesnt make for a very good mod, being that only a few of the blocks and the score font are all I have, but it still looks good. Oh, by the way, how come you never answer any of my pm's anymore? Thanks, Bob!  Well, since I'm up, I might as well put together a progress list, since Someman insists on asking.
Gonna go into a bit more detail with this list, though.

Awards - 87.5%, 1 file left to do.
Backgrounds - ...Honestly, 0%.  Been focused on the actual graphics.
I'll probably change as many as I can before I release the pack though.
Blocks - 100%
Eyecandy - 95%, 2 files left.
Fonts - 0%, haven't changed 'em yet.
Might have to settle for font from a different game.
Menu - 87.86%, 6 files left, 3 at 0%.
Modeobjects - 92.06%, 2 files left, 1 at 0%
Modeskins - 100%
Powerups - 100%
Projectiles - 100%

The only thing I'm keeping hidden is progress on the tileset... because I'm cruel like that.

Not sure how much longer this pack's gonna take...between my goin' in and fixing things up and the hecticness (is that even a word?) of the last few days before I move, I don't know if I'll be able to get much more work done anytime soon.  I don't even know if I'll be able to post a teaser shot for this week.  I'll do what I can, though.

Alright, people.  Due to a minor complication (seems I always run into those), I've got yet another slowdown in work for the pack.  Turns out both of the computers I've got at my disposal had a major virus attack.  I've got the '98 up and running like new again, but the better computer still needs work.  I'm workin' on transferring my work from one computer to the other so I can pick up where I was.  Let this be a lesson to all of ya.  Don't settle for just any antivirus, get a good one.

Well, aside from a few slight annoyances (which can be very annoying indeed), the computers are both in workin' order.  I'm puttin' a copy of the pack on both computers though, in case this one decides to dive back into virus hell.  The other one's a lot easier to fix up.  Just have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall my stuff, no problem.

Ok, offtopic-ness aside, I think I finally decided on a font to use, so I'm edgin' even closer to gettin' the pack done.  Hooray, minor advancement!

I used AVG before, but I know, and I'm sure, it doesn't detect even a half of spies and viruses getting into your computer. If you want a good antivirus, use Panda or McAfee. Both are sharewares, though.

To Hadda, thanks for the turboupload link, the pack's pretty good!  To Someman, the project's comin' along as usual... I was actually workin' on a game font, even though it's not that great.  Couldn't really decide on a single font to use, so I just picked one of the four I was choosing from at random.  If yours turns out better and I use it, you'll get credit for it!

Those numbers look really good.  The zero looks funny, though.  Zooming in, it looks like it has two extra columns that can be shrunk down to make it more round, then that will give you extra room to complete the shadow on the right side of it.
Title:
Post by: Link901 on November 30, 2006, 08:25:08 PM
That they do!  I'd say after a quick fix for the 0, these would be great for the pack!  And as I said before, if someone's work is in the pack, they get credit for it!

Wow, I'm slippin'.  I almost forgot to post a weekly teaser AGAIN.
Runnin' outta stuff that's actually interesting... I gotta hurry this pack up.
This week's is the player select menu.  Not much, but at least it's a teaser.
Those mushrooms are the old graphics I had.  They'll be fixed.

By the way, Sgraff.  I started workin' on a font like that back when I made the post about the "font-race".  I've got 18 of the lowercase letters, and 16 of the capitalized ones.  I've had to custom-make a lot of things for the pack so far, so this isn't much different.  I might have all the letters done before I call it quits and go to sleep... whenever I decide to.

The goombas only use two frames for walking.
That means they always face the same direction.

The skins look alright, but to be honest, they could use some work.  First of all, with some work it is possible to make at least part of the skins palette compatible.  It may take a bit more work, but the frames can be set up to animate smoothly.  Yeah, that's about it... I complain too much.  Oh well, back to work on the font!

Wow, 3 days since the last post.  Good work on those, someman, but there aren't gonna be any maps or skins released with the GFX pack.  Avoidin' complications and possible confusion, y'know?  I've been gettin' further along in the pack lately.. puttin' together a font for the game.  Thing is, I've got a lotta work left to do.  As if having to custom-make a good bit of the font wasn't enough trouble, I'll have to custom-make the large font so it'll fit right and look good too... long story short, I've got a lotta work ahead of me for this.
In case you're wondering, here's how the small font looks.
Not gonna blur this one.  Just give me part-credit for it since I had to custom-make about 80% of it.

You are aware that there isn't a download link for the pack on here... because it's not done yet.  And if that &^(%ing computer doesn't quit screwin' up on me, I'll never get the pack done... I'd transfer it to this one if I got it workin', however shortly that may be, but this computer's outdated, which makes editing png's a real pain... but hey, at least it works.  So odds are, I'll fix that computer well enough to give me time to transfer it to this one, and pick up from there... It's recurring aftermath from that massive virus attack from before... there's a few traces of the attack that I can't seem to get rid of... I can clear 'em out, restart the computer, and they're back!  And none of my scanning software's been able to catch it yet... tempted to get this hacker kid I know to help me fortify this thing and keep it safe from now on.

Run "msconfig" and check to see what apps are launched at startup.  If you don't recognize it, disable it.
Second, check to see what services are automatically started.  This is a little trickier to know what should be there.

A relative didn't mess the computer up, it went all crazy on its own.  Just went to a site lookin' for somethin' and boom, 20 to 30 friggin' virus attacks at once.

Try this:
1. Back up all of your NSMW stuff (on to a CD or something).
2. Use a system restore. Restore to about a day before the virus attack.
3. Continue pressing the "Next" and "Finish" buttons until your computer restarts.
4. Wait for the restore to finish.
5. Restore all of the NSMW stuff back to its original location.
6. Be happy.

Sorry it's been taking so long, Someman.  Between fixing up this computer, some major distractions, and one hell of a messed up sleep schedule, I'm havin' very little time to work on the pack.  The computer's good to go now, so that leaves two slowdowns.  I just have to work past the distractions, and eventually get back to sleepin' normal.
I WILL get this pack done.  No altered palette though, Big JM, I'm doin' my best to avoid possible complications.  But I guarantee you, THIS PROJECT WILL BE FINISHED.

Ok, I'm gonna lay it out here straight.
I don't like to admit it, but I'm comin' across some pretty rough times lately.
Basically, I'm flat broke and stuck career-wise.
To be blunt, if I don't get some income soon, stuff's gonna get shut off and it's hard to say when I'd be back.
Word of advice to anybody moving to a new place. Hope that it doesn't suck like this place does.
Makes me miss Weston... there really is no place like home.

Hang in there Link!  Things will turn around.  Stuck careerwise?  Maybe time to interview somewhere new or is that what you are doing?

I knew a guy that was looking for a tech job but everywhere he interviewed wasn't a good fit (i.e. didn't get offered a job).  He eventually started working for Barnes and Noble just to pay the bills.  He kept interviewing though, on his days off.  Six months later, he got a job that he really wanted.  So temporarily settling for something that isn't what you want might not be such a bad idea.

While I can't personally vouch for that, I also highly recommend visiting any local employment agencies.  Especially the state-run ones, because they seem to have more work (at least around here anyway).  Temp jobs are better than no jobs at all - and more often than not, you're able to find at least a few leads, probably to some at least part-time jobs.

Alright, guys... I'm sorry about the slow progress of this mod, I really am.  It was going along so smoothly at first, but with the small bit that's left, I'm finding it harder to gather the sprites and such that I need.  If you want to see this graphics pack finished, I'll need help.  To help you, I'll make a list of welcome submissions to be added to help in the completion of this graphics pack.

Backgrounds - A welcome addition to the pack, seeing as I haven't put any in yet... knowin' my luck, they're in my NSMW Work folder.
* Cape graphics - This has been a complete and utter pain in the rear for me.  I've made at least 6 different edits to this, attempting to make it look decent, but none of them have turned out right.
* Explosion graphics - I can't for the life of me find anywhere to get ahold of the NSMB Bob-omb explosion to use for this, and I'd rather not use one of those Game Maker ones... too generic.
* Bowser Fire for Survival - These have been a pain to find too.  I've tried alternatives, yet nothing quite fits the NSMB feel...
*Tileset - Yes, complain all you please, but I haven't finished the tileset.  The thing is, I'm trying to arrange it so that it doesn't scramble the original maps.  It's proven to be quite the challenge... that and I've got screwed up priorities, worrying more about the other things first.[/list]
For items with a * before them, help is greatly appreciated!

Also, who thinks I should go ahead and take a shot at NSMB-izing the Tanooki Statue?  After all, it IS able to be used!

The NSMB bob-omb explosion is a particle effect created by the DS hardware. I'd rip it for you, but No$GBA takes 45 minutes to load the game and the first level with bob-ombs is somewhere in world 5 I think.
I'll try doing the tileset. I've already ripped most of the NSMB tilesets, so it shouldn't be too hard.
For the bowser fire, is a rotated Podoboo okay?
And do you need the Goomba, Koopa or Boo? I can rip these for you (found they are sprites, and where they're store d)
I'd rip backgrounds for you, but they're not stored neatly. They're split up into 8x8 tiles, and put into little tilesets similar to the level tilesets. The game then puts these little BG pieces together to make backgrounds. I don't know how, so I can't do it.

The only things left are what's listed there.  I have the Koopas, Boos, and Goombas... although, I had to custom a Goomba because the whole front-view deal.  I'd greatly appreciate help with the tiles, though!
The Bowser fire and Podobos look way too different though, in my opinion.  It just wouldn't seem right... but hey, it's worth a try!

Title: Difference between beta and finished mod?
Post by: SabreCEO on February 14, 2007, 02:02:55 AM
What exactly would be the difference if you released the almost finished mod, or a beta compared to the finished mod. You've stated for about half a year you're worried that someone would steal it an pass it off as their own...

Everyone knows you've been working on this project. I doubt someone will just claim they made the mod, we all know you did, so what would it matter? Besides, if you wait till you are finished and release it, someone could claim it as their own and try to pass it off as their own if they really wanted too, exactly the same as if you released a beta, what would be the difference? Am I missing something?

Also, it really has been about half a year now. The whole open source do what you want, add stuff I made, stuff you made, etc. etc. is great, and really fun. Just think of how many people could have been having fun with the stuff you made this whole time, for half a year! But no one has because you haven't released anything because you are afraid someone might steal it and pass it off as their own. I think you're missing the whole open source fun aspect of this whole thing...

We all know you made it, if someone copies it and tries to pass it off as their own how many people wouldn't realize what happened, I bet we all would. So basically hundreds, or thousands or more of us have been waiting for this mod, and haven't been able to play it for half a year because you're basically worried about one person trying to steal it (I say one because any of us thousands of SMW fans all know you made it, so we wouldn't be tricked). I think you should really weigh the thousands of people who would love to play your mod, and would have loved to play it this whole time, against this trivial threat you're worried about. I'm not trying to say you're doing anything wrong by not releasing it, do what you want. But if you really think about it the good from releasing betas would outnumber any possible bad by... well an extremely justified amount.

Yeah, I see where you're comin' from Sabre.  I honestly didn't think it'd take nearly this long... which is frustrating me to no end.  I'm not quite so worried about theft of what I've done as much as the look of the project thus far... I'm pretty picky about it.  Without the tileset finished, it looks pretty.. well, pretty weird.  But you've got a good argument (not meaning that in a bad way) in that speech of a post, there.  It is pretty surprising realizing that this work's been going since 1.6...  Y'know what, I've gotten enough convincing!

Awesome! Going to see what I can do with the tileset now.
edit: Is it OK if I use the same tiles to replace more than one thing?
Also, I can get you proper rips of the Boos, an unused front-facing Goomba (but you'll have to animate it - there's only one pose) and the proper Podooboo.
And, I just realised that the pipes will not work properly. The entrance to the pipe is smaller than a 16 width/height, so you cannot just use the left entrance as a right entrance as with SMB3 pipes. What should I do? I could have only 2 pipe colours, but that will break existing maps. Leaving it this way will also break existing maps.

This doesn't look too bad on the SMB3 pipes, but it does on the NSMB pipes.

And now to explain why that did not work, because Dude apparently can't: the game has one set of tiles for "pipe ends" and another set of tiles for the pipes themselves.  The pipe ends are as big as they can be because that way, you can stick the pipe on either side and it still looks like it's coming out.  Big JM's "fix" doesn't work because there aren't that many tiles in the tileset: just one "end" and one "tube" per color, per orientation (hori/vert).

Let's stop failuring and giggling, ok?
I'll just make that edit, then.
I've already edited a few other tiles for that.

And again, since I still haven't got a reply...
Can I use the same NSMB tiles in more than one part of the SMW tileset? I need to, because there aren't enough NSMB tiles to fit everything.

Oh, sorry Jouw.  Thought I said before that it was alright.  I'll have to find a more consistent way of keepin' in touch with ya.  You use any instant messengers?  I've got a few things I messed with in the tileset myself, and it'd make it a bit easier if we compared our changes.
    Title:

No, I don't use any instant messengers.
You can PM me the tileset you used on this forum though. So far all I've changed is the SMW grassland and SMW/SMAS mushroom platforms.
Guess my NSMB tileset was useful :D

Wow... I guess everybody DID get tired of waiting...  Only 3 or 4 responses to the pack's beta.  Oh well... I phail, I guess.
Tad bit discouraging, but what the heck, I'm gonna see the project through to the end!

I never really tend to post responses to this kind of thing, for some reason. A good thing to do is edit the first post with the dl links and advertise the release with a topic name edit.

Yeah, but I'd rather it not seem like I'm shovin' the pack out at people and making 'em download it.  If I wanted to do that, I'd pull a Tritoch and sticky the topic. XD  But seriously, you reminded me about the download link, and thanks.  The Rapidshare and TurboUpload links were supposed to be temporary sources until I could get it uploaded to a more permanent location.

Hm... well, voting for or against, I'm not gonna pull a Tritoch.  I'll let Two or Florian decide if it gets stickied.  Although, I wouldn't suggest this actual topic being stickied unless the flamewar that nearly got it locked and the other random stupidity were removed... which'd cause complaints about dropping postcounts.  If you ask me, I'd suggest we leave this topic as-is, and sticky a new topic designated solely for comments and release links.

THERE'S the guy who was wantin' to do the PSP port!  Heh, forgot who it was there for a bit.  Although most of the graphics are able to be ported easily, some of the stuff's actually hi-res. (Hold your ewws.) Also, the pack's still in beta, which means that, even though graphics are there, they're STILL subject to change.  Odds are, I'll go in and work everything down into lo-res. (Now you see why I said to hold 'em.) I've been working the past few days since the beta release, changing graphics here and there, cleaning up the "blur" that Tiptup said some of them seemed to have... probably because they were a bit jpegy.  Also, Jouw, could you PM me with a link to all the NSMB rips you've done?  I'm pretty sure there's one that I'm forgetting about.
    Title:
    Post by: anger2headshot on February 22, 2007, 04:12:59 AM
Aww, low-res. But if you change the default tiles to the new style too, the whole game can be potentially look entirely "new".
    Title:
    Post by: Link901 on February 22, 2007, 04:15:40 AM
That's the whole aim of this pack.  To change every inch of graphics to look like New Super Mario Bros.  Although NSMB didn't have a whole lot to the tileset.  Which means there'll be quite a few custom-made tiles in it, if you hadn't noticed already.

Oh, and the tiles in NSMB are 16x16, so it's lo-res or no-res.. heh, clever wordplay, you never let me down.

As you may see, most of the blocks are NSMB. You can use it, just resize it and fit it in both the largest and smallest tilesets.

That's Jouw's rip, Jimmy.  And guys, keep your tilesets to yourself, please.  I'd rather not have this topic turn into a race to see who can throw together a tileset the fastest.  Because most likely, they're all gonna be rushed and come out sloppily done.  That, and it's bound to turn into an argument over who's work is better, or that someone used another person's edits or something, which almost got this topic locked a long time back.
Besides, I've actually got Jouw helping with the tileset, (I hope '~') so it shouldn't take two years past forever like it's been takin' with me workin' alone.  Which reminds me, I need to send him a PM.

Edit -> Select All -> Cut

Image -> Stretch/Scew -> Type 200 in both stretch boxes.

    Paste -> Image -> Stretch/Scew -> Type 200 in both stretch boxes.

Double the canvas, then paste and double the image. If you try doubling the canvas with the image on it, blur ensues.

Wow, this topic sure does wander down the list after a while, doesn't it.  The project's still comin' along at a somewhat decent pace, by the way.  I've been workin' to clean up some of the "blur" that was mentioned, and I'm also changing the graphics to lo-res so people won't go all "Ew, hi-res" over it... that, and for porting purposes.  Some things got changed just slightly, while others might have a whole new look.  Also, thanks to Jouw, I have a much better Goomba than that horrible custom I made.
Offtopic, it's guaranteed that I'll have my internet back by the end of the month, if not sooner!  So I'll be back on a more regular basis and I'll have a surprise for my return!

Jeremy B. hit the nail on the head on that one.  Sure, hi-res looks better when it's done right, but it's nearly impossible to port to things that use smaller resolutions.  Oh, and Mrracket, Jouw already sent those my way and they'll be in the next beta release, with a bit of a change.  I cleared 'em up some, since they looked a bit fuzzy.  I'm hopin' my ISP doesn't decide to be jerks and not reactivate my DSL the day after tomorrow.  If they do, I'm sayin' eff it and I'm bringin' my jumpdrive up here to the library and releasin' Beta 2 anyways.:D

Also: How do you "port things onto lower res?"
    Title:
    Post by: Link901 on March 28, 2007, 10:42:55 AM
That's up to the porters on that one.  I know there's someone that's more than likely to take a shot at porting it to PSP, so that's one.  I don't have any idea on how to port, so I can't really do it myself.

Also, Beta 2 is READY! Only temporary sources for now, till FileDen cooperates, though.

(Grab your seat and be ready)

    Link 901,

This pack is what brought me to come and join the army (72dpi, to be exact). I am looking forward to completion!
Also, the on the reason there aren't too many people coming, I have to say no offense, but please take this into consideration--which I am sure you have, being a moderator: There are other topics, and people have reputations and duties there. I am sorta kinda popular with skins, and I am still pretty new, and I have that status because of other topics.

In conclusion, I must say that this is one of the largest and--I'd bet most popular--graphical packs for SMW moderation I have seen so far. May you please continue?

    Post by: Link901 on April 14, 2007, 04:37:53 PM
That's what this whole topic's for, fech.  I haven't quit workin' on it, so don't just go all "Hey, let's take the stuff he did since he quit and use it and say we did it".  I've been scourin' through folders to find the hi-res NSMW graphics I'd made, so we'll have a hi and lo-res version.
    Title:
Post by: fechdog on April 14, 2007, 04:46:10 PM

    Title:
    Post by: Link901 on April 14, 2007, 04:56:43 PM
Well, graphics is just about all I've done.  If you look back through the earlier pages, namely from 1-15, you should find a music pack somewhere in here.
    Title:
Post by: Ryche on April 14, 2007, 04:56:50 PM
I think you both took each other wrong.

@ Link901:  He meant that he wanted to extend the pack you're working on now to make it a full-out mod--music, tours, etc. (With your credit, of course!)

@ fechdog:  Link901 intended it to be a GRAPHIX pack. It's in the name. And, I think you should have told him you were going to give him credit, because you can if you edit the credits "splash" in the "Menu" folder of the graphix.
    Title:
    Post by: Link901 on April 14, 2007, 05:13:30 PM
I knew he wanted to extend upon the pack, but it would've been a good idea to mention that I'd get credit for what's my work.
We've got a music pack somewhere in this topic's earlier pages. There's a soundpack too, but it wasn't very good, since a lot of sounds were missing.  Tours, I never thought about.  And as for skins, I'd said before that I'd probably release a few after the graphics pack's finalization.
    Title:
Post by: fechdog on April 14, 2007, 05:21:53 PM
Of course you would get the credit!  I wouldn't make anything and not tell who helped me.  I understand that would make the people who helped angry at you and would never want to help again.

Also, I just thought I'd let you all know I AM making a hi and lo-res version of the pack, so it may be a while between betas and ultimately, the final.
Plus, I've ported the graphics over so that this next beta will work with the April Fool's Edition!

*Side note* Even after the pack's final release, I'll work to update it along with new releases of Super Mario War, so if new items are added in, I'll have a NSMW version of it made soon after.

How much emphasis do I have to put on "nowhere near done"?  There wasn't much changed in Beta 3, really. I mainly swapped the lo-res graphics back for the hi-res ones I'd used as a base to make the lo-res.  The only major changes made were the hammers.  I added a little more look to the Beta2 hammers and used those for the Sledgehammers (which is what they were in NSMB), and put in the regular hammers.  Your hi-res eggs are back, if ya didn't notice.  Sorry if the pack let ya down, but one guy can only do so much.

one question: is the tileset alredy finished?
    Title:
    Post by: Link901 on May 15, 2007, 10:01:19 AM
I wish.  Getting together a complete tileset's been one of the big things slowing this project down.  The lack of tiles to work with's really proven to be more hindrance than help.  That, and updating the pack to work with the latest release, giving me even more stuff to work on.

Not much since the last beta aside from making hi-res equivalents of graphics for the alternate pack.

    Title:
    Post by: Link901 on May 22, 2007, 08:59:34 PM
Right now it's on hold till I finish a simpler side-project.  Workin' on 3 at the same time's just proving to make my work even slower.  So I'm doing things one at a time.  I'll finish this NES pack I'm working on, then try and do a Paper Mario menu theme Lurchi requested (which shouldn't take long at all, since it's just the menu), and then I'll work on the lo-res NSMW pack.

What did I miss?!? The pack isnt done yet, is it? I was grounded for a week, so...

.:COMING SOON:. A MSPaint-Drawn award for Link901 for the longest-taking and sure to be the best SMW GFX mod ever! Also, out of sheer boredom, I spent 4 hours going through every single page and saving every single NSMW related graphic (Including skins, screenshots, and all other gfx posted in this topic) and music pack. I will post it as soon as I can get the stupid uploader to work...

EDIT: Yay, first post on the new page! ^.^

YAY! The gfx/music pack I promised you guys is here! I was bored, so I spent 4 hours going through all the pages and gathering all the gfx. Although it might not have taken so long if I didn't stop to read half the posts I saw.
As stated in my earlier post, this pack has ALL the graphics anybody posted on this board, and it has the two music packs. The gfx are organized into different folders. Download: http://www.usaupload.net/d/mhdn1862wfp (http://www.usaupload.net/d/mhdn1862wfp) Warning! 70MB!
And the award is almost finished, Link! I must say, it looks very cheesy...

    Title:
    Post by: Link901 on August 10, 2007, 01:51:55 PM
Actually, they are in NSMB, but only in one level.  Hit up 8-7 and there's one or two in the level.  To get the colored Sledge Bros, I had to do some playin' around with the hue and brightness and all that.  It wasn't that hard to do once I'd figured out the settings I had to use to get the colors.  When I throw Beta 4 out, which'll be sometime soon, I'll have the arm fixed on 'em.  There may not seem to be a whole lot of difference between the beta versions, but that just shows that I got it the way I wanted it... or I just haven't changed my mind on it yet. :P

What, no other feedback?  C'mon people, I wanna know what you think!  Even if it's somethin' short like h4gm4's, any responce is better than none.  If you think anything at all could be changed in the pack, don't be afraid to say it.  There's not much point in making a pack that everybody can use if nobody likes how it's done, y'know.  Although the optimistic view of this would be that nobody thinks there's anything wrong with what's done up to this point... Either way, make yourselves heard everybody!

Yeah, I know... I haven't included the tileset in the packs not just because it isn't finished, but because I want it to be in a useable form.  I'm working on keeping the tileset organized so that you can use all the original maps with the pack and not have a jumbled mess like some modifications tilesets do. (No offense, Booman and other people)
I'm making pretty decent progress on it, so this pack's gettin' closer and closer to completion every day!

Well pottmannen, there's a quick fix for that situation.  You can go in and take the menu GFX from that pack and replace the current ones with those.  I've gone through maybe 3 or 4 menu looks, so there's bound to be people that like one look more than another.
Also, about the tileset. I've got about 3/4 of it done, so it shouldn't be too much longer (maybe a few weeks) before you guys see RC1 out!

Alright, since I'm not gonna post an image of the actual tileset till it's finished, I'll do this.
This is a chart of the tileset, showing what's done and what's not.
    Red - Unchanged
    Orange - Needs work
    Yellow - May change
    Green - Recently fixed
    Light Green - Done

Seriously now, people.  This is the last leg of this graphics pack.  If there's ANYTHING that you think should be changed, say so.
You'll notice that there's an extra folder in the pack, so if anything gets changed, it'll probably show up in there.

But look at what is done for this mod:

    Graphics are 90-100 percent done
Music is about 80-90 percent done
SFX is about 20 percent done

If you ask me, thats pretty close to being done.

Simply cut and paste into the folder and click Yes to replace it with the new one, or if they're in one folder, do the same thing with the folder. You're welcome

The music and sound packs were separate downloads to begin with, and any that are made now are gonna stay that way.
Sorry if that crushes anyones hopes and dreams or somethin' like that.
