Title: ~Fanmade Content Poster's Code of Honor~
Post by: EmThree on July 07, 2007, 07:16:34 PM
1. If you borrow someone's idea, credit them.
2. Be creative when making fanmade content.
3. Check to see if someone has already done what you are doing (eg. a mario skin)
4. If someone comments on some of your content, it is only polite that you comment on their content too.
5. If you download someone's content, leave a comment.
6. If you really like someone's content, leave a comment.
7. If someone is taking requests, then give them requests.
8. If someone is starting a project, help them.
9. When giving critique, give in depth criticism and constructive criticism.
10. If someone is asking for feedback, then give feedback.
11. Complete old mods before making new mods.
12. Don't keep bumping your 'stuff' topic unless absolutely necessary.
13. Use http://http://smwffh.supersanctuary.net/ for hosting maps and etc. and http://http://www.imageshack.us for the convenience of others.

1) Yes
2) Sometimes. A really creative map could kill the CPU players and that wouldn't be fun.
3) Multiple versions dont hurt but usually yeah
4) What
5) .. tell that to all the guests.
6) Yes.
7) oh dear god don't hype up request topics anymore seriously, half of them are just asking for objects and not real maps. This needs to be "If somebody has a request topic then request an ACTUAL map instead of an object (e.g. a christmas tree, anime chara head, etc)" then you'd have 1000% support behind it
8) Help if possible, yes.
9) 100% support.
10) Yes.
11) Oh dear god yes.
12) This goes hand in hand with the request topics. Half the older mapmakers have left and the ones that are still around don't have topics floating at the top of the page? You know why? Because all those request topics keep flooding them down with requests of objects and not real maps.

4) What

Yes. Usually it is polite you know. It can be hard sometimes but honestly, this goes along with the rule of equivalent exchange. It's like getting tons of comments and never commenting on other people's work. Imagine how the other people would feel.

This is why skin requests are awesome. However, they're rather hard.

I comepletely endorse. My page is at the bottom of the page currently, and I even take requests!

#11 wins!  but then, why did everyone abandon my mod?  i havent had any time to work on it again, plus, everyone's (seemingly) abandoned the FMC forums for the blah^3s.  w/e, if i have time to work on it again, i'll bump it.

There's one small problem in this though: Most of the skins, maps, and mod ideas are always being made again and again. They have already been done.

1.) YES
2.) Creativity is all a matter of perspective, but yes.
3.) Not necessarily, but when making things that are similar, give them your own personal touch.
4.) Agreed 100%.  I wish more people would comment on people's material who have commented on theirs.
5.) HELLZ YEAH
6.) HELLZ YEAH
7.) Of course.  I, for one, would love to have a few requests in my topic.
8.) This one is iffy, but for the most part, i would at least give feedback on their project, if not help.
9.) DAMN RIGHT!!!  Bad critique: "LOLZ DIS IS DA LULZORDZ AWESOME1337NESS"  Good critique: "I liked your map/skin/content because ______.  i didnt like it because _______, but i think you could do _______ to fix that."
10.) See answer #9
11.) OF COURSE.  This is why my mod that i tried to make failed.  i worked on it with others, but people kept making new mods, ignoring mine, and other started ones.
12.) Agreed, but i often break this rule myself, in hopes of getting more feedback or requests.
13.) I DO INDUBITABLY CONCUR THAT YOU ARE INDEED CORRECT SIR.  I already use these file hosting sites, and everyone else should for the convenience of others.

I just have an innate apprehension of doing so, because of:
Fear of 1-2 word posts
Fear of being called a spammer (i'm serious on this, there was a person here once that wasn't afraid to comment on maps a lot, a he was labeled a spammer snd post count raiser) <:|

hey now that we have 1.8 we might need to add/edit stuff.
like now ppl might make world packs, or maybe even world "mods" like changing the look of the world tilesets.
we oughta revise the code and make sure it is up to date.
