Title: Please Read The Rules
Post by: Two52 on October 31, 2006, 07:16:00 PM
The rules are here for everyones' benefit.  They are simple and easy to follow.  Please read them before posting.

You might want to add something about not flaming members, and instead reporting the thread in the rules somewhere.

Huh, you're right.  There wasn't a rule for this.  The rule, as stated, was about receiving messages, not about posts.  I added one.

Any chance of a "No Memberating" rule?

It's just because, when someone breaks a rule, we don't need 10 people posting:

Quote
OMG! U BORKE TEH RULEZ! ZOMG! U GET TEH PENLTEH BOKS!

And, without mentioning any names, there are a few people that do this regularly.

How about a " No msn topics" rules, Example: Zash's"Booman impersonating zash" thread.

A few Fun Facts;

If someone flames you in a topic and you don't respond to that flame (ignore, whatever) then they can't flame back

You can't get in trouble for flame wars if you aren't a part of them/don't start them

Thirded. Some flamewars have started because of me answering back.

onoes tlk about me

BTW, flamewars sometimes start by the actuall person that shouldnt be there responds.

No attempting to start a flamewar knowing the person doesnt like you.

I dunno, it would be a good rule to keep out flaming.

I'm just pointing out a suggestion I made to prevent things like Zash, Sykotic, and Bobmanperson's "suicide"

Quote
Yes. To prevent things like this from happening again, I sugggest to prevent people from thinking the only way to leave is by flaming and spamming like crazy, we add to the rules list that if they wish to leave, pleas inform an Admin requesting to be banned. Don't break the rules on purpose. (Though they WANTED to break the rules on purpose, hopefully the next person who wishes to leave wont.)
Title:
Post by: YoshiMonarch7 on November 07, 2006, 08:21:47 PM
They just mass-broke existing rules. No need to add anything.

Yes, but not everyone may realize that there's an easier way to leave than spamming and flameing like crazy.

To show this, we might want to make a new icon to show that they walked out, instead of showing them banned. This is to protect them because they have walked out, which is more honorable than getting banned. i associate being banned with breaking major rules.

What would it be, a Bob-omb exploding?
Title:
Post by: Two52 on November 07, 2006, 08:30:07 PM
Why wouldn't the member just leave?  Make a farewell thread and that's it?
Title:
Post by: JM Dragon on November 07, 2006, 08:32:31 PM
That would work as well, but if they walk out like that, will they have the banned sign on them, or do they have a different sign?

If that were so, I'd suggest it would say Banned (voluntary.) I seem to remember Zash saying he WANTED to be banned back before he was banned (the first time.) So not everyone may want to do that

ontopic: well is there gonna be another banned sign for the guys who want to leave? I suggest that instead of mario getting a poision mushrrom that mario gets killed by lava.

Why can't we leave it as the poison mushroom?

But if you're talking about a little animation for members leaving by choice, just make it mario exiting through a door or somthing.
Title:
Post by: Evil Eye Sigma [But] on December 05, 2006, 10:05:14 PM
THAT IS GENIUS!

but wait..but what if they want to come back?
Title:
Post by: Link901 on December 05, 2006, 11:37:35 PM
Then take the image off and unban 'em.  Simple enough.
Title:
Post by: Dave ‌Strider on December 05, 2006, 11:43:59 PM
And they contact someone with that power... how?
Title:
Post by: Link901 on December 05, 2006, 11:49:37 PM
Well, if they leave voluntarily, they could just be given the image and not actually be banned, but on  leave, so to speak.  They could come back, PM a mod or admin and request to be taken of of "leave".

Post by: Psuedo on December 08, 2006, 09:54:20 PM
I think we're going to need to make a rule about credit. the people at MFGG recently made a topic complaining (sort of) about people not giving credit to the people who made the custom sprites used in skins.

WARNING

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE RULES SET BY THE ADMINISTRATORS AND MODERATORS OF THIS FORUM AS WELL AS IMPROPER OPELATION AND MISUSE OF THEIR SERVICES AND INFORMATION WILL RESULT IN THE VIOLATOR SUBJECT TO PROSECUTION TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE JAM. FAILURE TO COMPLY TO THIS AND THE ABOVE, AS WELL AS ANY OTHER REGULATIONS SET IN PLACE BY THE ADMINISTRATORS AND MODERATORS, WILL RESULT IN A VIOLATION OF YOUR ASS.

IT IS THEIR FORUM, THEY HAVE TAKEN THE TIME (AND OFTENTIMES MONEY) TO CREATE THIS WEBSITE TO EDUCATE YOU, TO TALK WITH YOU, AND TO SHARE WHAT THEY KNOW WITH YOU, AS WELL AS GIVING YOU A PLACE TO TALK AMONG YOURSELVES WITH VERY LITTLE NECCESSARY IMPEDIMENT. FURTHERMORE, THEY HAVE GIVEN YOU A PLACE TO SIMPLY "GET AWAY FROM LIFE" AND ALLOW YOU TO DO PRETTY MUCH WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT THAT ISN'T ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING OR TRASHY. HOWEVER, IF AT ANYTIME THEY FEEL YOU ARE A PROBLEM, THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO REMOVE YOU, WITHOUT COMPLAINT, AS YOU ARE ABSOULTELY NO BETTER THAN THEM, IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, AND NO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE HERE. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO WHAT THEY DO NOT.

Question: If "backseat modding" is so damned bad, should we just sit on our lazy asses letting topics fall apart or should we try to help? And no, I don't care if you staff people edit my posts, it won't change a thing.

It's called "reporting" or "PMing a Mod or Admin about it"

People have gotten countless bans and warns for trying to help mods with work. Might as well not even read half of the crap here if it's just going to urge you to "break" the "rules".

Maybe it's because they somehow screw it up or end up in the rule-breaking itself?

Even saying " Isn't that spam?" or "Can you please stop?" is illegal.
Title: Re: Please Read The Rules

*cough* REPORT IT *cough*
Just making a whole stupid topic or post about it doesn't help. I mean, it's like everyone forgot how to report to an admin or mod. It's like thinking that you do it makes you look like a sissy or something.
Title: Re: Please Read The Rules
Post by: Turndawg107 on March 15, 2008, 11:52:39 PM
Addressing the issue directly in the topic without moderational powers is identical in nature to "feeding the troll."  Nothing gets done by merely yelling back.  I will also let you know that since I first was promoted to B^3 mod, I have received exactly zero PMs from members concerning behavior in a certain thread of sorts, and the reported threads I have seen were already taken care of when I logged in(not that very many reports happen anymore either).  In other words, this "backseat modding" not only prevents the staff from being informed of the situation from the get-go, but it leaves a bigger mess to clean up, leaves a sour taste in the forum, and slowly leads to a loss in forum interests and values as a whole.  The solution?

WHEN YOU SEE RULE-BREAKING OCCUR IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, PM THE MODS OR ADMINS AND LET THEM HANDLE IT.

There's a difference between giving advice and sounding like you are giving a command. Chaos just tends to seem rude when he gives his advice to me. Plus, he should have PM'd ssf about it instead of getting off-topic with his post. I'm sorry but that is a little irratating to me.
