Title: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on January 01, 2015, 12:20:42 PM
UPDATE: The site is now online at smwstuff.net (http://smwstuff.net)!

So I was thinking about a making new content sharing site for some time now, but after the spam attack in the past few weeks I started working on it seriously.

I know there are some (mostly personal) collections on the net, but I wanted to make a more open site, where everyone could upload their stuff. I also plan some extra features, like registered users could select their favorites, then they could download all of them by one click. Uploaders can also set custom categories, eg. 'My Megaman skins', or give descriptions which may help searching.

Here's how it looks like right now:

http://tinypic.com/r/33u6d0m/8
http://tinypic.com/r/659yxl/8

What do you guys think?

Excellent idea! See, i miss the SMW-Stuff, we really need another sharing site. If you would like, i can share all the stuff i collected so you can put on the site.

I've made a few skins. I could upload them to the site if it gets up and running.

I have some hardware issues currently, as my less than a year old laptop died. Again.

Screenshot Saturday!

http://tinypic.com/r/2qkpbpf/8
http://tinypic.com/r/o6cfq0/8

Most part of the site works (but only skins can be uploaded currently). I'll polish it some more then put it online.
Is there some feature you would like to see?

PS: yes, I'm still working on netplay, but my replacement laptop is too slow for network development. I'll get back my old one in ~2 weeks.

All right, the site is nearly complete! I'll just add some extra love, and if everything's look nice then it will launch this weekend.

I'll need to do some server configuration and test if everything's working correctly, the launch is very close now :)

Looking forward to it. Might have to dust off the old paint program and do more recolors.

I have some issues with the domain name currently, but of course their support don't react to my mail...

The site's now online! You can try it at www.smwstuff.net. Everything should work, and I uploaded ~100 skins which were included originally with SMW. Please report if you find any bugs or something.

PS. Registration emails will most likely land in your spam folder.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on February 28, 2015, 11:41:54 AM
Hey, I'm liking it so far! No bugs to report.

I do think it's too bad that the little preview animation doesn't convert colors to how they would appear ingame (which would advertise the skins better), but I guess that would be quite a bit more programming work.

Only other thing is maybe we could display more than 25 skins per page? I think most people wouldn't have a hard time at all displaying 50 or more per page, the images are so cheap.

Oh oops, also, there was an error with my Black Mage skin (asgardreid_BlkMage). Can you delete that one?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on February 28, 2015, 05:37:14 PM
Glad you like it :) Next week I'll add some way to edit or delete uploads, and change the skins/page count. Meanwhile I managed to use the SMW palette on the site, the skins are now randomly colored as one of the 4 teams.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

Oh haha fantastic! I guess that wasn't such a big coding issue after all. Thanks a lot, that's a big improvement.

Very nice with the team colored thing. I can't wait to upload other stuff besides skins.

Excellent work! It's truly an improvement since the last resource site. But i didn't get one thing, we need to create an account specific for this site? The SMW Forum account won't work?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

Pretty sure it was like that with the old one as well.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: GaM3r2Xtreme on March 01, 2015, 09:43:27 AM
It might be a good idea to clone the old sites to this new one to preserve the content they hold. Is this even possible to do though?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: 108Specter on March 01, 2015, 03:34:19 PM
Strangely, i'm not receiving the registration mail. It's not even in the spam folder. And i'm pretty sure i'm not comiting any error with the address. Does anyone know what could be happening?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

Fixed a bug, file names are now saved correctly at the upload.

Quote
... we need to create an account specific for this site? The SMW Forum account won't work?
The site is not connected to this forum, so you'll have to create a new account there too. It could be possible to add Facebook/Twitter/etc. login support, though that might raise some privacy issues.

Quote

As far as I know, everything on the old site is lost. There are some collections of the old stuff, but I'm not sure yet how they should be handled. I would prefer if their original authors would reupload them, but of course many of them aren't active anymore. Maybe there could be and 'oldcontent' user, to which these stuff could be linked to. What do you think?

According to the error logs, your email provider refused to accept the registration email. I'll send it to you in a private message.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

It worked now. Thanks man! I owe you one
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: GaM3r2Xtreme on March 01, 2015, 08:23:25 PM
The "oldcontent" user sounds like a good idea. Maybe name the user "anonymous" with a description stating content provided by this user has been uploaded without the knowledge of who created the content. You could also include if the content belongs to someone, it can be taken down and re-uploaded by that said user, if the need arises. Nice work so far fluffy. May I ask how you designed the site to begin with?

On a side note: I see you have also been working on Netplay from your signature, how has that been coming along? I would like to see if Netplay is possible to code myself, but I have been having complying issues from Visual Studio stating the SDL_mixer.h file is missing.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on March 02, 2015, 01:38:46 PM
Pen & paper :D I draw how it should look like and what functions should be there, then started coding.
Netplay is still under development, you can find more info in this thread (http://72dpiarmy.supersanctuary.net/index.php?topic=9353.0).
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: GaM3r2Xtreme on March 03, 2015, 12:40:34 PM
Wow, you have been doing a massive amount of work on this project from the looks of the Netplay thread. When, and if you do, post the source code with the netplay included, I would love to check how you managed to provide a solution. Did you use the source code from the Source Code Repository (http://72dpiarmy.supersanctuary.net/index.php?topic=1435.0) thread when you started working on netplay?

Very nice site. Been trying to find my old skins to upload. For some reason, the files get corrupted when I save them from this forum.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on March 03, 2015, 07:35:35 PM
I plan to upload the source on this weekend. I've used that SVN repo as a reference, but based my work on a custom branch I found on github. I've made lots of changes to the code though, so it's a bit different now than the other repos.

Awesome, looks like I know what I will be digging into this coming weekend. I have seen those custom branches were made, but I never downloaded the code to check what has been modified. Do you plan on making another branch off of github, or starting a new SVN repo elsewhere?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

I just added a little file info editor, you will find a new icon on the page of the skins you've uploaded.

I'll use github, they have some nice features I'm missing on other sites.

Nothing yet I guess? Text disappeared after I clicked apply, unless it's like some system reference thing like, "yeah I edited this".

Is there an archive thread on the board we can work on transferring to the new site?

Oh, I can see the text on your Gooey skins now. Maybe it just took a while to come up?

Now, what would be fantastic, fluffy, and this is just about the last great feature I can think to add, would be if the search engine could search through those captions as well as through filenames. That opens up the option of using the captions to tag the images by franchise and the like. Say if every LoZ skin had the tag [Legend of Zelda], then if you searched that, you'd find every skin from that franchise, no matter its name or creator. That would be so cool and it'd be very useful for people who are, say, just huge Pokemon fans and want every Pokemon skin available. Do you think it's feasible?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: MC Jimmy on March 05, 2015, 02:28:00 PM
Would you perhaps want this topic moved to the fanmade content forum, and stickied, so people who make stuff can notice it over there? I know we have a topic stickied from the old SMWStuff. I could probably just lock that and unsticky it, then put yours in it's place.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on March 05, 2015, 05:26:04 PM
Today I added shareable links to every file, like this: asgardreid_BlkMage (http://smwstuff.net/skin=142), enjoy :)

The text box is for editing the description, changes to it should be visible right after refreshing the page  (if everything's fine, you'll get a message box about this).

As for the caption search, I was planning this feature too. Originally there was a way to add categories ('tags') to files, but it was somewhat difficult to use, so I removed it. However, using simple text for this task is not a bad idea, it's easy to edit and search in it. I'll try this out next week.

Would you perhaps want this topic moved to the fanmade content forum, and stickied, so people who make stuff can notice it over there?
Sure, sounds good!

I've added the game download page, you can reach it by the 'Get the game' button. I've rebuilt the game from source so this does not require additional DLLs. Tested on Win 7, Win XP, Debian 7.8 and Ubuntu 14.04.

If no one objects, I'm probably just gonna go ahead and create an "oldcontent" account and upload some other skins that aren't mine. I can share the password by PM if anyone else wants access.

I'd still love for the search engine to be expanded if you find the time, fluffypillow. I know you're working on a lot, though.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

Hey, found and uploaded the skins that I had made. For some reason, though, they're showing up with a pink outline on the website. They work just fine in game though.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on March 08, 2015, 03:33:36 PM
Instead of manually managing a new user, I was thinking about adding a checkbox to the upload page, which you could tick in if the skin wasn't created by you. Then that skin would be automatically assigned to the oldcontent user.

I plan to add some nice features to the search engine, like better uploader search and the tag finder. But for that to work, please use the description text box of the skins, searching in the comments would probably result too many unrelated hits.

Just a quick FYI, the IRC site will not load as irc.freenode.net (http://irc.freenode.net) but will work as webchat.freenode.net (http://webchat.freenode.net). This should be updated on the site  under the "get the game" link when you get the chance to.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on March 09, 2015, 06:50:26 PM
Added tag search/highlight, now if you have something between [brackets] in the description, it will be highlighted, and will be searchable. Here's how it works: http://postimg.org/image/c9sb02d5l/

the IRC site will not load as irc.freenode.net (http://irc.freenode.net)
Yes, irc.freenode is just an IRC server (no webpage there), you have to use an IRC client to connect to it. I've added a link to their webchat page too.

For some reason, though, they're showing up with a pink outline on the website.
Fixed! :)

By the way, looks like the upload page is broken in the latest Firefox (36.0.1), at least for me. Does it work for you? No problems in Chrome though.

I just added the 'old content' checkbox to the upload page, you can now use it to upload others' skins.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on March 09, 2015, 08:36:28 PM
Fantastic! Thanks so much! I'm going to keep a running tally of franchise tags I've added or seen.

[Animal Crossing]
[Bad Piggies]
[Blaster Master]
[Dillon's Rolling Western]
[Final Fantasy]
[F-Zero]
[Game & Watch]
[Ice Climber]
[Kirby]
[Legend of Zelda]
[Metal Gear]
[Metal Slug]
[Mother]
[Pac-Man]
[Pikmin]
[Pokemon]
[Robot Series]
[Sonic the Hedgehog]
[Star Fox]
[Street Fighter]
[Super Mario Bros]
[WarioWare]
[Wii Fit]

That being said, the comments I added on my skins are no longer important. So it might be an idea to add an option to delete comments. Not a big deal, though.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: 108Specter on March 09, 2015, 09:58:34 PM
So from now on, i believe we must tag the skins according to their respective series rather than specific games

But Fluffy, about the search option in the tags, you will still enable it, right?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on March 10, 2015, 08:42:54 AM
Yeah, I'm just doing game franchises to make it simpler, but there's no reason you couldn't tag individual games too if you wanted.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on March 10, 2015, 11:28:00 AM
Also, I guess it's a shame that you can't edit the description of skins other than the ones associated with your account. I uploaded BlastedLandmark's Chilly skin, checked the box to indicate it wasn't mine, but missed my opportunity to add the [Kirby] tag, so now that it's associated with "old content" I can't do that.

Maybe you could allow people to edit the descriptions freely, like on an image board? Or just selected users?

EDIT: Huh. Also, the site may be glitching a little. If I try to upload one of my own skins (so I don't check the "This isn't mine" box), the upload bar goes to 100% but doesn't actually complete. This has happened with a couple of different skins so it's not just one causing a problem. And since finding the error, I've managed to successfully upload another one that wasn't mine. So there may definitely be a glitch now when that box isn't checked.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on March 10, 2015, 08:09:09 PM
I've improved the search bar, now if your search text begins with '[' or '@', you will get the list of tags and uploaders.

So from now on, i believe we must tag the skins according to their respective series rather than specific games

You can add multiple tags to the skins, and your skin will show up for all of them.

But Fluffy, about the search option in the tags, you will still enable it, right?

You mean the buttons to sort the results? Yes, I'll fix that.

Also, I guess it's a shame that you can't edit the description of skins other than the ones associated with your account.

Added to my todo list :)

So there may definitely be a glitch now when that box isn't checked.

Thanks, fixed (I hope).

Oh great, the oldcontent update is much appreciated, thanks!

So I went through to try and tag a lot of the oldcontent skins by franchise -- can you guys help me identify some of them?

IceHockey quartet (was this a NES game or something?)
NinjaKid
Oldman
Pig
SlipIce
Spike
Tanooki (Super Mario Bros, is it? But it's not Mario in his tanooki suit...)
Train (this could be... just a train I guess)

Oh that works! Well I guess I won't tag it, then, unless maybe there should be some kind of a [General] or [Misc] tag.

How do you do the tag feature?
For any skin which is either associated with your own account or "old content", you can go in and edit the description. Adding "[Kirby]" to the description will tag the skin with that franchise (so you can search for all Kirby-related skins later). You can add multiple tags, too.

Uh oh, it looks like 108Specter and I both can't upload skins anymore. You can select a file for upload, but the window for adding a description, checking "This isn't mine", etc. doesn't pop up, and then when you click "Upload", you get the message "Select some files to upload first."

Great, thanks! Back in working order. Now, there's just one other thing right now that 108Specter and I noticed: the search engine seems to hiccup on queries that return more than a page's worth of results. If you search for something like [Super Mario Bros] or @asgardreid, you'll see what I mean. It's sort of as if the site forgets the search query once you click to the next page.

Anything you can see that needs to be patched there?

Thanks Fluffy! I know you're doing a great job about fixing bugs. There are, however, two other bugs i found. In My Stuff, the skins i've uploaded aren't showing up. Or is it happening just with me? There's also the fact that when i tried to delete an oldcontent skin (RamblinMushroom, i wanted to reupload it with a shorter name), it gave a message "You don't have permission to delete this skin". It never happened before. Could you check it?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on March 12, 2015, 10:47:00 PM
Ooh, yeah, I can attest to the first problem. Both the skins I've uploaded and the skins I've favorited are empty in My Stuff. However, it still knows how many are there (8 favorited and 34 uploaded) so they haven't been wiped, they're just not displaying right.

Can't attest to the other problem, I never tried deleting an oldcontent skin...

Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on March 15, 2015, 10:06:58 PM
Hey fluffy, everything's been fine so far! I know you're busy with maps and nothing I'm about to say is urgent, but there are two more things I think could help the interface if you get the time...

First, I love the random team color assignment on each page load, I think that's the right way to go, but how about a manual color previewer as well? Since you've already got a method that can convert the out-of-game colors into any of the four team colors, this shouldn't be too hard. What I'm picturing is that in the popup window for a skin, there might be, say, four little colored squares, red, green, yellow, and blue. If you click on one, then the skin animation would switch to that color. See what I mean? Am I right in thinking this would be pretty trivial based on what you've already got encoded? It'd be very handy.

And the other thing is, your idea of having all the franchise tags pop up when you type in "[" was a good one and it's been quite useful so far, but it's going to get unwieldy as more and more tags are added. Perhaps, instead, the tags should be listed on a separate page? (They might be clickable links, the same as they are in the skin popup windows.) Once that's done, some sorting options come to mind. Right now, they're sorted from the back of the skin archive to the front, which is useful, but alphabetical sorting would be handy too. And the coolest would be a "biggest-to-smallest" sorting where the tags with the most skins (SMB, Kirby, Pokemon) would be at the top and the ones with the fewest skins would be at the bottom. Is that within reach of your code or do you think it'd be a bit much?

Again, neither one is a must-do, but I think they'd be pretty great improvements. I hope that's not too much to ask, let me know what you think! (And I second Sir Ginger Ale's comment from his topic: since you've got the tag system down pat for skins, I hope you can also implement that for maps. It'd be really great to be able to tag maps by environment type and gameplay attributes -- like "no ?-blocks" or "lots of ?-blocks -- to make them easier to browse as well.)
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

Actually, sorting the tags is easier, I've already wrote most of the code, just forgot to turn on. I was thinking about either moving it to a different page, or, adding some buttons to the side of the tag panel, where you could select how you want to sort it.

The color selector is bit trickier, as it has to be written in such way that would not slow down page loading or take too much memory. I have an idea how to do it properly, so it's not impossible.

You'll be able to add regular tags to the maps, and they will also have the same additional filters as in the game, like "Death Tiles", "Throwable Blocks", and so on. These will be set automatically when you upload a map, and I'm working on a map preview generator right now too.

I've added a team color selector, you can find it by clicking the little gear (the location might change later).

Also, the skin browser now shows only the name of the skin, instead of the filename (eg. "asgardreid_BlackMage" shows up simply as "BlackMage"). Do you guys like it so, or would you prefer the old way?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on March 19, 2015, 06:04:17 PM
Oh okay! That works, as far as the team preview goes. Thanks a lot!

I think... I personally prefer seeing the full file name, but I can see why someone might prefer browsing the new way. Is this the sort of thing you might be able to instate as a user setting?

Here are today's changes:
- added skin color chooser for the details page
- the sort bar now always visible, what do you think about this?
- tags are now clickable

And a question: would you guys prefer seeing the warp arrows on the map previews on the site, or it's enough to see them in the game?

I would like to see the warps, so I know the full effect of the map because I might pass up certain maps if I think they don't work without noting the warps or something of that extent.

IceHockey quartet is from the NES Ice Hockey game, NinjaKid is from the Ninja JaJaMaru-kun series and Spike is from SMB3. Tanooki I think is based on SMB3 a bit, the skin just looks like Mario turned into an actual tanooki if anything.

I have two requests:

1) Possibly a way to either delete or update skins? Spotted a minor problem in my Biospark skin but I can't delete or change it now which is kind of annoying. ._.
2) Maybe a preview image for skins that can be used when we upload images onto the forum? (like the walking animations we have already but we can also somehow copy the link for it and use it in posts)
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

You can delete skins you've uploaded or oldcontent skins. Open that skin's window and click the purple pencil icon, then choose "Delete file".

I agree that it might be kinda nice to have an option to replace a skin (preserving its location/downloads/stars) rather than deleting and re-uploading a different version, but I don't know whether that's feasible...

Hey, glad to have you back! Great uploads -- can I just ask you to be a little more persistent on the franchise tagging? For example, [Super Smash Bros] is a tag, and I know Primid and that awesome Mites sprite would be at home there.

You can use [Misc] for things that don't come from a specific property or that come from a niche non-videogame work like Zeeky H. Bomb. (Boy, that one takes me back.)

Hey Fluffy, it looks as though we've lost the ability to delete old content files. I accidentally checked the "I didn't make this" box while uploading Suplex Kirby, thought it wasn't a big deal, but have now found that I'm not permitted to delete the file. Would you mind checking on that?

Also, I'm still hankering to get the full file names back, if you can make such a thing possible in Settings. I think I prefer KingPepe_Dugtrio over Dugtrio.

Thanks!

EDIT: This isn't a bug, but I noticed that the map uploader says "Drag your skins here". Oh my god but you've got it so the site detects map features AUTOMATICALLY? This is amazing.

Hm, did that work before? I think that was disabled for security reasons, as I wrote here (http://72dpiarmy.supersanctuary.net/index.php?topic=11124.msg201795#msg201795). But I guess it could be enabled for the real uploader of an old content.

Sure, and I didn't forget about the tag sorting ether :)

I can add a link that would include the whole skin sprite (IIRC this was how it worked originally on the forum). Making it animated is harder; I had some problems before with creating gifs on the server, so currently the images are autogenerated for the selected team color on the site. Actually this is faster than getting all the images individually.

I agree that it might be kinda nice to have an option to replace a skin (preserving its location/downloads/stars) rather than deleting and re-uploading a different version, but I don't know whether that's feasible...

Yes, that's a planned feature, I'm just not really sure yet what would be the best way to do it.

Hey, here's an idea that seems pretty simple. On the main page, in addition to a row for the five latest skin uploads, how about a row for five randomly-chosen skins from anywhere in the archives? Now that there are over four hundred skins to browse through, it'd be nice to give skins that are buried deep at the far end a chance for some more exposure.

EDIT: This may or may not be for selfish reasons because it seems that I can't upload skins without either 108Specter or KingPepe immediately booting me off the front page (which is every time I've uploaded this month).
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on April 19, 2015, 04:16:59 PM
Good idea! But, instead of the main page, how about a 'Shuffle' button on the browse page? It would fill the page with randomly selected skins on every click, and actually it's a really simple feature to add.

By the way, I'll have exams in next few weeks, so development might be slow. After that, which content type would you like to see next? I have some plans for announcers (there's one with the classic Unreal Tournament voices, I really don't want to lose that), but what would you guys like?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on April 19, 2015, 04:36:13 PM
That sounds just as good! Honestly, I think both would be good features even alongside each other, but if editing the main page is less ideal then I'm happy with your other proposal.

I threw together a couple of music packs back in the day, that could be fun. It might be filesize-intensive, though.

I really like this site!
I'll certainly consider posting a few of my skins to the site.

EDIT: I should note that some of the skins I posted still have the transparency magenta rendered as a solid color, possibly since the magentas I used in those skins aren't the exact magenta the site looks for to make transparent, even though they're transparent in SMW itself. Also there should be a function to quickly update an existing skin.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

That's an interesting issue, after looking into the source code, I don't really know why it does work in game! :) Did you have a specific reason to use that color?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: Superjustinbros on May 26, 2015, 01:24:01 PM
Well, not exactly.

I use my Macintosh (my main computer) to make the skins, and since Photoshop saves the colors differently than Paint.net does, when I bring over the skins onto my Windows with Super Mario War, I have to fix the colors so they work in Mario War.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

Updates!

- Added shuffle button
- Added next/prev buttons (on the file details page)
- Added mobile and small screen support

Next I'll continue with the requested features, and I was also thinking about an online skin editor too. Would you guys use it or you prefer to work with desktop softwares?
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on June 22, 2015, 05:38:56 PM
Oh, the shuffle option is perfect, thanks so much! As far as an online skin editor... Wow, that's an ambitious idea. I'd probably stick with GIMP because having the ability to mess around with layers makes spriting a lot easier. But then why not go for it? If you have the time and the inclination, it sounds like a really cool project.

EDIT: Here's one idea for an extra feature that should be super easy. On the skin library pages, we get the options to sort by upload date, uploader name, stars, or downloads. But only two of those pieces of information are displayed there on the page: the date and name. Star and download counts aren't visible except in the skin popup windows. But those would be really easy to add to the library display too, wouldn't they? There ought to be enough horizontal space to fit them in... Well, in the browser version at least, I haven't tried viewing the site mobile.

DUBBS EDIT: You know, as long as I'm being a whiny douche, there's one more thing that's been mentioned in the past here that I'd like to bring up again. I'm starting to think of revamping one or two of my skins on the site, and it would be really cool to be able to "replace" a skin rather than deleting and reuploading. Leave the skin in place with its downloads/stars/upload date/etc., just with an updated image. What do you think, does that sound workable? For that, I don't have any sense of whether it'd be easy to implement or a real pain.
Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded

Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: fluffypillow on June 25, 2015, 02:41:28 PM
All right, now you can replace existing files (both skins and maps), you can find a new button for it on the "edit panel". I've also made the star and download counter visible when you sort by those. These can replace the date field, so it's still visible/readable on mobile too.

Title: Re: SMWStuff Reloaded
Post by: asgardreid on August 14, 2015, 11:43:36 AM
Hey fluffy, just checking in to report a minor bug. You had made that nice change that if one sorts skins by star or download count, the actual star/download count for each skin is displayed right there on the page. But I find that when I click to the next page to view the next 25 skins, the columns reset to displaying only username and upload date. The skins are still sorted by star/download count, but that figure is no longer being displayed.

In other words:

I go to "Browse".
I click "Stars" to view skins sorted by star count. I see the first twenty-five skins, plus username and star count.
I click the right arrow to view the next twenty-five skins.
The next twenty-five skins are there, sorted as they should be, but the star count column is gone and the upload date column is back.

I'm sure this must be an easy fix - would you mind?

If you're creating the skin in gimp you have to:
- flatten the image to make it 24 bit depth if it isn't already by default
- dimensions have to be 192X32
- when you save as a bitmap check do not write color space information (http://gimpforums.com/attachment.php?aid=2404)
- if you want to reupload a skin you can select the skin you want to reupload and there will be a purple box- choose your new file and click the purple box and you can replace the skin

I shouldn't take these things too seriously, but it looks pretty weird that Herb Fargus's skins have now been downloaded more times in the short span that they've been up than any other skins have in SMWStuff Reloaded's lifespan. Previously the top skins were in the low thirties; as of this post, nineteen of Herb Fargus's twenty-two skins have 35 or more downloads.

What's, uh, what's going on there?

Testing how easy it is to abuse the system- quite easily actually. As flufflypillow is getting the site all set up he's still working out the best way to organise all the fanmade content and sooner or later someone vain enough will try to abuse the system to push their submissions to the top- its best to get these things sorted out at the beginning.

I meant no offense to yours or others' artwork (which quite frankly is far more original than mine) I've told him clear my download counts.

Keep up the good work mate :)

Sure, there are ~40 registered users, of which 20 are active uploaders. Also, skins and maps were downloaded over 14.000 times, and the game more than 300 times. The number of visitors is about the same since the start, 60-70 a day, which might grow with the release of the netplay.

That would be nice, I've got a few packs I've saved that I'd like to share.

On a side note, in case you didn't know, the "My Stuff" link doesn't work, at least for me.  It always tells me it can't connect to the database, just FYI.

Thanks, Mapsking

I am. A message appears saying "Could not connect to the database. Please try again later." Besides, when i tried to replace a Skin with a newer version, it didn't work, so i had to upload the new version and now i would like to delete the older one, but since it's "old content", i can't do this. Could you help me? This is the Skin: http://smwstuff.net/skin=1523

Hm, I should make this old content thing a bit more user friendly... anyway, I've just removed it.
As for the error, I'm not sure why do you get it, it should appear only when the browser couldn't properly connect to the server. Does it happen every time you try to visit My Stuff?

No, it's very random. It doesn't seem to really affect anything at all, as i can still see my stuff after a while, but it's strange that this message appears.

Sorry for being late, I've just removed the old Link. Feel free to ping me for such problems :)

And did we just hit 1000 skins? Wow!

I've been wondering, is there already an option that enable users to make a checklist? It would be easier to keep track of the stuff that we already have and the ones we still need to download. Also, i think it would be useful to have some sort of warning whenever a skin is replaced by a new version.

There have been the idea of creating some kind of launcher app for the game, and integrate it with smwstuff. A content sync function could be added to it, eg. to download the skins you've marked as favorite.

The alert is also a good idea, there could be an icon on the my stuff page (if it loads) when a skin changed recently. Or maybe an option in the settings, to send a mail when one of your favorite skins changes.

Lucy Loud (http://theloudhouse.wikia.com/wiki/Lucy_Loud) had the honor to be the 1000th skin uploaded in the page!

When will the other categories be added? I have four music packs and an announcer pack sitting in my dropbox and would like to move them to SMWStuff.

By the way, this may not be the right topic for this, but i think it's a relevant matter. I've noticed that in-game, SMW won't show two maps with the same name, even if the authors are different people. This isn't the case with the Skins.

For example, while choosing Skins, both "hazey_Pikachu" and "ym7_Pikachu" will show up. But when choosing maps, "SMW Fan_shipwreck" and "tubesteak_shipwreck" won't appear at the same time, which is something that is impossible to notice if you don't check the maps folder thoroughly. Maybe it has something to do with coding, so i suggest that this must be fixed. And while we're at it, i would also like to suggest that in the future, the Skin choosing in game worked similarly to the one used in SMWStuff, with maybe even the inclusion of tags.

Thanks, this is indeed a bug! In the code, the game removes the author part of the file name, but doesn't handle multiple maps with the same name. I've just tried to fix it, but then to my surprise, map names with 3 spaces in their names showed up with some garbage characters as name ingame. Interesting...

I've also noticed that the level editor won't show two maps with the same name, even if they're in different directories; this can effectively block you from editing some of your maps if copies of them are in the "worlds" subdirectory, unless you change the name of the copies in the "maps" directory.

Sorry for the late reply; yeah it seems the forum links and the registration stopped working, I'll see if I can fix it the weekend. I also plan to rewrite some parts of the site (it was made in quite a haste originally), and probably that's when the support for the other stuff will be added.
